I wouldn't say his vocals weren't incredible obviously ;d I just had a point stating some of the imperfections in the vocals, are actually what I like. On S/T I guess he got more set in his ways, it's probably more comfortable. I remember when they were premiering songs on Telegraph Sessions, I got back to that session some time ago, and it all sounds nearly the same! Whereas when I saw them live, he sang "Chase Dream" completely differently (it does appear quite difficult though).

The S/T is one of the most boring albums I've ever listened to.

I don't think so. I think he sounds so much better on the softer parts of Waves than he does at any point of the self-titled. The vocals on the self-titled feel so lifeless and monotone to me for like the entire album. It genuinely feels like he's bored and doesn't care the entire time. I literally can't listen to the album because the vocals are so bad. Waves definitely has imperfections vocally but it at least feels like he's trying on that album and I think he sounds way better as a result.

Honestly though I'm kind of glad the self-titled has become so well loved because it makes it feel like it was worth my personal disappointment. I just wish I could join the love. Hopefully they make another album that fans of all of their albums can love. Songs like "Abby Normal" would work I think.

@SpyKi I'd agree the vocals sound lifeless and monotonous, but for me it's not like in a boring way, but still in a very colorful way to put an adequate image to the music.

Every so often I go back and listen to Waves because I think it can't possibly be as bad as I think but yeah. It is. The single most disappointing album for me since I started listening to music :tear:

Man the chorus of Where Two Bodies Lie is unlistenable to me. He goes so flat on all notes in it. The protracted "breathe" is baaaaaaaad. Second half of that song is the best part of Waves tho imo. Vocals are still bad in it. "Tiiyyyeeeeeimmmmeeeee"

Another hot take, Eastern Leaves is the best song Evan Weisz has been or ever will be involved in.

The S/T is still a top 10 record for me. Everything just truly comes together on that one: Greg's vocals delivery is more confident and on point than ever before, compelling songwriting, incredible atmosphere, best production work to date. That album is true bliss for me every single time I listen to it. Really takes me to another world.
