I don't care to look at post histories back to when Winter Soldier, Civil War, and Infinity War were released but I doubt it. I don't remember anyone saying those films were "uninspiring", so any criticisms the films faced were never towards the directors.

Are you suggesting people may have something against married directors? Directors usually do get the short straw when films are criticized but I'm not aware of people actively being against married directors.

I think people are grasping for straws and being really weird about this movie

True. This film is being looked at by critics with a microscope. My original post was sort of seeking opinions about the directors because, as I said, I don't know their track history.

  4. Looks like Brizzy and Tessa Netting were there. (I met Brizzy at AX last year lol)

@DerekIsAGooner is your wife in this photo?

I'll work on my review when I get home from work in a little while. In the meantime, here are some pictures that me/my wife took from the premiere last night.

She isn't. She was standing in a different spot among the cosplayers. There's a video going around on the Marvel Report of she and another cosplayer meeting Brie and happy crying, though.

Who is the brunette she's with? Looks like the woman from Agents of Shield but I'm super out of the loop.

In a word - yes. My wife told me that Clark made it a point to come by and meet every single cosplayer on the red carpet. She also said that while Brie was giving an interview the two of them locked eyes and they both started to well up a bit at the occasion.

Yeah, it's Jemma from AoS. A few actors from the show were there last night.

  15. I accidentally watched a minute-long video about how RT is against freedom of speech (after it banned early fan ratings or whatever) and I could feel my brain cells dying.

  16. I remember in English class in high school or something, we were learning about different schools of thought, whether or not we should take into account the author when critiquing a work of art.

In college, I took an Asian American Fiction class, and I came to question the literary canon, who decides what authors I had to read in K-12 and why I should listen to what they think I should read.

Maybe in addition to considering the author of the art itself, we should also consider the author of the criticism of the art.

I've been trying to articulate this thought for the past hour but I think I keep over-complicating it with personal anecdotes in my head. I guess the point I'm trying to make is, we need more diversity, at all levels. Who gets to make movies, who gets to star in movies, who gets to decide which movies get which platforms, who gets to decide which movies hold value.

Man that review comparing it to the ending of Rogue One shot my hype through the roof. Can't wait for Thursday.

Brie Larson touched on part of what you're saying here when she was pointing out that she really didn't care to hear middle-aged white male movie critics writing about why A Wrinkle In Time didn't work for them.

  19. Whenever I talk about that movie, for some reason I always felt the need to say "it isn't great, but I loved it," instead of simply "I loved it."

  20. I think the only truly great MCU origin movies are Iron Man and GotG. The rest range from fine to bad. I'm excited for this.

edit: Black Panther is great, but he got introduced in Civil War, so I didn't really know how to consider it. Spider-Man also got introduced in CW, and Homecoming was pretty good I think.
