Yeah, I must have missed part of that comment. I guess the point is that no one is saying they are altruistic and moral and good as a company, just that the fact that their model allows greater accessibility is a good thing. If they continue to listen to the users who want this kind of content and allow interesting movies/shows to reach a wide audience, that’s a positive too. If they give that up and go to the same nonsense that every other big studio does, then they will lose this audience and what good will they have from them.

We still get back to the no ethical consumption problem at the end of the day of course.

 

I have some top notch movie reviews so buckle up! spoilers for some classic masterpieces up ahead.

1). The Super

Well idk I was bored and it's on Netflix. They def go the stereotypical gruff weirdo outcast red herring route which was predictable. But I will had it to them that I did not expect it to end the way it did. Idek if the filmmakers expected it to end the way it did either. I give it a C-

2). Malevolent

Another Netflix horror. This started out with an interesting premise that reminded me of that Ouija movie... The sequel I think. They're scammers who pretend to be ghost hunters and then oh no real stuff starts happening!! But I feel like this one also lost it way at the end. It had decent atmosphere I guess. I give it a C.

3). Malicious

The third Netflix horror. It's not great. College professor and his preggo wife move into rural home. They are gifted a fertility box by the wife's sister from an estate sale and oh no it is like a curse and leads to her having a miscarriage! But then the entity like convinces the wife that it's her baby and she starts to love it and protect it and tries to kill everyone. Husband kills her and stops the cycle but ends up in prison. But does he destroy the box?? Does he hide it forever?? No! He re-gifts it to the wife's now pregnant sister therefore solidifying her fate and more deaths even tho she didn't even know it was a cursed box wtf?? I give it a D for the pettyness.

4). Final Destination 2 (rewatch)

Whoever came up with this premise is such a genius seriously. I imagine it's so fun to come up with the ridic kills and lbr the franchise has given ppl fear of planes, log trucks, tanning beds, pool drains, rollercoasters, etc! #iconic. This movie holds up. My goal is to be a bit actor killed off in one of these films. I used to think this coke dude was so cute lmao. Some would question the decision to name a character Clear Rivers but I applaud the bold move! A+

5). Final Destination 5 (last 30 min)

So me and my dad watched the last bit of this and had no context or clue what was going on except we knew the actor looked like Tom cruise. They even talk and laugh the same omg!!! This massive fight goes down and Not Tom Cruise gets killed by something that I feel shouldn't even belong in a kitchen?? And then WE FIND OUT IT'S LIKE A PREQUEL TO THE FIRST ONE OMFG MIND BLOWN DONT EVEN NEED TO WATCH THE BEGINNING TO KNOW A+++++!+!

 

Now I'm rewatching the first Final Destination and wow I forgot what a petty lil bish death was in this one. At least in the others it's all a freak accident but in this one is more supernatural and unfair tho oddly easier to cheat but trying to make Alex look all guilty smh get over it grim reaper

 

1 and 2 hold up so well!! I just saw 2 again this week and I also totally forgot that I used to think the coke guy was cute. Lol. I thought that was basically the perfect sequel because it added to the mythology in a meaningful way and the kills were still super memorable and stayed mostly related to universal fears. Plus they actually gave some hope to the story without getting rid of the darkness of the idea.

3 is definitely when it takes a step down as far as the story goes, but there are still some iconic moments. 4 is the worst because they did the awful title thing with it which will always be confusing and they just went way too far with the gore and impossibility and it feels the most like the story doesn’t matter. 5 isn’t my favorite but it’s super cool that they went for the secret prequel and back to the mythology actually mattering. I should rewatch that one because I’ve forgotten most of the kills. Plus now I love Nicholas D’Agosto from a bunch of shows so I should probably rewatch the first thing I ever saw him in.

Something about this series is so nostalgic and great to me and it’s absolutely one of my top horror franchises ever.

 

I feel like I'd believe this more if I wasn't probably literally the only person who can tell you who directed Bird Box and I haven't even seen it

access is important and I understand movie theaters are insanely expensive, but what is it access to, access to films is as meaningful as access to healthcare

 

The Fast & Furious franchise has made over $5 billion at the box office worldwide. That blows my mind.

It must be closer to $7 billion in total earnings with all the DVD's and Blu Rays, holy shit.

 

I re watched them all recently to make a music video type thing and I can see why. They are great action movies that kind of have it all and the last 4 movies are all just Uncharted style stunts.

Yikes just got to my rewatch of final destination 3 and the dip in quality is like a nosedive. Def got that cheap and misogynistic cliche horror vibe now. I never realized how significantly different the tone is in this one cause I've never watched them so close together. Still has iconic deaths and I do appreciate that the deaths are more akin to the second one, like these wild chain of events leading to a death vs the first movie where it was more supernatural with like water crawling back in the toilet and screws loosening on their own. That was prob my least favorite part of the first one

 

The decision to go full kill ‘em all/no one really matters was such a terrible move for the franchise. I remember so many people being awful in that one but not very many specific problematic moments off the top of my head. I’m sure I will have a harder time with it than when I last went through them all.

 

Omg "fuck you, Ben Franklin!" Is the best line in this franchise so far. I like to think they knew this

 

Tbh I don't remember much about the 4th one and I've never seen the entire 5th, but the survivors of the second movie are still arguably alive at this point I think. They never died at the end and so far there hasn't been passing mention that they died later. But they def went the kill em all in the most gruesome way possible route which cheapened the franchise

Ashley and ashlynn (girls who die in tanning bed) are just super objectified. Pervert guy tries to take an upskirt pic of them, their thongs sticking out of their pants are commented on and zoomed in on, comments made about their breasts, their breasts actually shown before their death in a sexualized way and then almost like a sexualized death as they die naked in the tanning bed... Just grossness that wasn't present in the first two

 

I have always disliked the tanning bed for that reason even though it seems to be a fan favorite in general. I couldn’t remember if there was stuff with the camera or not but I thought so.

There’s an alternate ending in 3 that confirms they died, and I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be canon even if it wasn’t in the original release. I also really hated that because unlike Clear or Alex it is just a joke to pour some salt in the wound and doesn’t have anything to do with the actual story.

 

I think the tanning bed scene is the only part of any of those movies that I've seen

 

I bet you’ve seen the logging truck shot somewhere too. The first two are definitely worth an unironic full watch. Later ones are more questionable...

If it plays at AMC, I'll go watch it with A-List.

 

I don't know if all types of event showings are excluded from A-List, but I have noticed that a lot of one-night-only kinds of things for anime movies have been.

 

Yeah they block Fathom events and some other stuff from A List but I always just get a ticket for another movie and jump theaters (unless there aren't any open seats. I check on Fandango beforehand)

 

I expect this to be pretty but lacking in the plot department
