"Byzantine" reminds me of older Tegan & Sara stuff for some reason. Love it.

I know subjectivity and whatnot, but I can't fathom Hurley in the top half of their discography. I love Blue, Pinkerton, Maladroit, White, EWBAITE and Green. Hurley has a few great songs, and some all time terrible ones that leaves it as the best out of their 4 album down stretch for me. For me Pacific Daydream and Black are in the middle ground with neither the highs of the first 6 or lows of my bottom 4.

That's my view of their discography anyways.

I don't like EWBAITE at all, really, and I think that their discography is so spotty that it pretty easily sits at number 6

It makes me so mad that people keep bringing up that setlist from last month. IT WAS A PRIVATE CORPORATE EVENT! That's obviously not going to be the setlist for their actual tour.

I find their newer stuff far more enjoyable to listen to. I understand the cultural importance and why the first two records are so great, but when I listen to Weezer these days I typically listen to "Pacific Daydream" and "White" (and now Black). Even the highlights off "Raditude" and "Hurley." The early stuff had its time with me, but it just doesn't feel like where I'm at anymore. I love Rivers' voice, melodies, quirkiness, and I listen to a lot more indie/pop now so it just aligns with my taste.

I don't see how that's hard to understand. It's fine if you don't like what they're putting out-- but I don't get how it's hard to see why people would prefer it. They're completely different.

    Maybe so, maybe not.

Ok...their 2018 summer tour with Pixies also had 4 cover songs per night.

"I'm Just Being Honest" is definitely my favorite at the moment.

  8. I loved those covers though. Maybe it's because there was no context of The Teal Album yet, but most of them were medleys rather than full covers (they did a bit from "Longview" as part of that Turtles cover) and they felt like welcome surprises within the setlist. Fun, solid, and unexpected, which may not be the case now, but that's just my two cents.

I saw them in 2011 and looking at the set list now, they did two cover songs in that set as well. Covers in their set aren't a new thing.

When I saw them in 2008 they covered Oasis' Morning Glory, and in 2009 they opened with a cover of Black Sabbath's War Pigs.

    Things have changed.

This album is fine. A step down from the last two, in my opinion, but nothing particularly egregious.

  12. I relistened to Maladroit last night and it's easy in their top 2 of records

On first listen, don’t really care for this. Feels like Pacific Daydream if Pacific Daydream was confused about what it was trying to be. High as a Kite, Just Being Honest, and Byzantine are the standouts.

In the grand history of underrated as hell albums, Maladroit is one of the prime examples.

  15. Death and Destruction --> Slob --> Burndt Jamb --> Space Rock one of the best runs in the band's history

100%. Also Keep Fishin' is one of their most infectious singles. It's just a really great effort from them that I wish they had continued to develop instead of going where they wound up going lol

I like the music video version of keep fishin’ more than the one on the record, wish that was on streaming somewhere

I'll be controversial and say that Maldroit might be better than Blue!

  24. I like Black more than Pacific Daydream but not as much as White or EWBAITE

it's definitely better than make believe, red, raditude, and Hurley
