First of all: this album is perfect.

Second of all: Weezer was my first favorite band. Without hearing my brother play the Blue Album when I was 10 and then me stealing it, I wouldn’t love music and be who I am. When I was 17, Blue-Pinkerton-Green was the holy trinity of music.

I like White-Pacific-Black better than I do the first three. 2010s Weezer sounds better to me than 90s Weezer, and I can’t describe how happy that makes me.

I was just about to come here and say that although the first two are my favorite, I’d take EWBAITE-White-Pacific-Black over their first 4 if I had to choose

    all we have is time

How could you guys speak for what "means something" to him? Just because maybe he's not going through some heart-breaking shit in his life doesn't mean the music isn't still a part of him, doesn't mean his heart isn't in it, and doesn't mean he's not enjoying it. If anything, time and time again he's proved that he's doing exactly what means something to him-- pushing the boundaries of Weezer.

Love it or hate it, that's fine.. but you can't argue that Rivers isn't 100% in it.

This strangely works because I’ve always thought EWBAITE and Maladroit were extremely similar. Comparing those two works really well.

blue-pinkerton-green - the holy trinity to me, similar to my girls commenting on the 'emo trinity of FOB, Panic, and MCR' (sigh - they dont know what I called emo back then....)

1994-1996 was when I was huge into music, for me - at age umm.... under 30. In Boston, WFNX and Providence (WBRU) were the stations.... landsdowne st was the place to go, and all was good in the world. Getting married, college, etc etc....

Without those albums then, dont know what would have filled those musical hours (sure, Id have something), but to me - those were the best. When Weezer hit the airwaves (and when Microsoft 95 had Buddy Holly) - things were fun :)

I really enjoyed EWBAITE and White. These last two though have just felt like the Weezer middle years where I enjoy maybe 2-3 songs and the rest is just throwaway to me.

I need to give Black more time. It’s a weird little album that I want to get used to. Definitely some highlights, but I just can’t see this being better than EWBAITE or White. I respect what they are going for, but Itll be nice for the pendulum to swing back towards those 2.

I was listening to this last night thinking it’s one of the worst albums I ever heard. Glad people are enjoying it tho

I can pretty easily say I like High As A Kite, Living In LA, and I'm Just Being Honest more than any song on Pacific Daydream. Really like Too Many Thoughts too. I wasn't super into Prince on my first listen

    ???

Almost every Weezer album is under 40 minutes long with the exception of Blue (41 - and that's with an 8 minute closer), Make Believe (45 - 12 songs), Red (41 - 7 minute closer), EWBAITE (42 - 13 songs).

    Green is under 30.

    The rest are under 35.

I know he enjoys it, and that’s great. I’m honestly happy for Rivers and where he’s at in his life right now, and I know he loves being weird and making the music he does.

What I meant was I don’t think that always comes through in the music itself. Listening to it often comes off and joyless or random to me, like the songs are manufactured. Maybe this is just because we know too much about his process and that a lot of it IS random lines from spreadsheets. It’s hard not to hear it that way once you know that. For some people that probably doesn’t take away the enjoyment, but for me it does.

EWBAITE is a huge exception to this, that album sounds like Rivers taking out his frustration on fans like me not digging the current music and I LOVE that. At least he’s writing ABOUT something there.

I love this album. I think with algorithms or not Rivers still had a hand in editing/altering lyrics. The process is no different than looking at a rhyme dictionary or a thesaurus, and I think the performances from the band here sound energized and Rivers sings with quite a bit of emotion on a number of these songs. This is coming from someone who was dreading the idea of this album

I guess I would put Black on about the same level as Pacific Daydream, but the highs on PD were high so I'll give it the slight edge. There's definitely a really great 10-12 track album between the two of them, though. And also neither of these albums are anywhere near as odious as Make Believe or Raditude. So there's that at least.

OK. You guys are almost forcing me to listen to all the albums after the first 3 (I have Make Believe at home, but dont know how much I listened)

I am at work all day, so if its true all albums are under 40 minutes (lol), I can get through their whole discography today.

    Things have changed.

It's pop music. Why would a 10-12 song album be LONGER than 40 minutes?

I'm really enjoying this on first listen. Better than Pacific Daydream, but not as good as White.

I really like Piece of Cake and the Prince Who Wanted Everything. And for some reason I enjoyed California Snow much more in the context of the album.

I think people THINK they don't like Weezer more than they ACTUALLY don't like Weezer.

Not sure how this became the 'cool thing to do.' Trust me, you couldn't find a person more down on Weezer than me during their Red/Raditude/Hurley days (although I don't even think Red is that bad anymore) but this band has absolutely redeemed themselves and more with these past four releases.

I don't see any other bands who get this much shit from media/fans who just refuse to accept anything past Pinkerton for ridiculous reasons.
