No surprises as Mike J returned to tell us the same thing that setlist.fm does, only for the 20th time this thread.

The discussion has waned recently so why make it even thinner? This is always the most active thread. We've talked about plenty of things besides the record.

Plus it's relevant as far as how they juggle the new record versus the old stuff.

Other users have asked you to not do setlist posts in this thread. Another user pointed you towards the forum where setlists are discussed. In order to keep the drama down, so we can keep discussing the album at hand, here's where a very active discussion is going on about this tour:

Tour - Thrice / La Dispute / Gates

I agree with your point that it is a relevant discussion, but because there has been some head-butting recently, I'm saying something. Don't want little micro-aggressions to build is all.

The more people discussing Thrice the better. Just want to keep it civil.

You guys act like I'm the only who was discussing their setlist. And the only reason I brought it up was because "Stay With Me" was eventually added in place of "Treading Paper." "Stay With Me" is one of the best songs on the new record (and relates to this thread).

But hey, no problem! When someone asks politely, I'm happy to oblige.

Commenting via a sarcastic and passive aggressive post is the wrong way to approach such a request.

    @tgscraig Prestigious

That's not what were acting like at all. We just don't need an update on the same 2 songs being switched in and out of the Setlist every day of the tour. No one replied because it didn't matter. That's what the tour discussion forum is there for. Or even the thrice thread that's a few posts below this on this forum. This is the discussion for the new album.

Stop being so self-righteous over it

Understood, Garrett. Again, it's not an issue moving forward since you approached the request with respect.

Since activity was becoming less and less, I just didn't want the main thread to die off. As a result, I had to post information that was loosely tied to the new record.

And I was only trying to be informative while saving everybody else a few minutes of research. My heart was in the right place.

My top five favorite thrice songs are circles, in exile, and then any three from water probably

I would love for the band to do a commentary for this record, similar to those notes they used to include with the album or what Dustin did for Carry the Fire.

Mainly, I just want a long discussion about all things "The Window."

I do think quite a bit of discussion we have in here could fit under the larger Thrice thread, but that's more my personal organization tendencies taking over. I like discussing Thrice, period, so let's just all do that.

I'm really curious how they decided on the song order for this album.

We talk too much / We talk in circles

The original purpose was tied to "Stay With Me" and how they juggled the new album with everything else. And their setlists did become an active topic during a time where the album discussion had died off. The other Thrice threads don't get much action so I didn't think I was doing anything too flagrant.

Also, I'm new here. I didn't know we had to stay within the thread topic at all times. Sometimes, the conversation ebbs and flows organically.

But again, it's not a problem since Garrett L. asked with respect. Making passive aggressive and sarcastic comments (without making the request to post in the proper thread) was uncalled-for when I'm only trying to further the conversation and keep people updated on how the new record is being integrated into their live sets. Until today, nobody suggested to post the info elsewhere.

So, I'll refrain from updating this thread with setlist information, even it's tied to the new record.

I feel like the sequencing is perfect on this album. Every song is where it needs to be, in my opinion. I also enjoy how Seneca divides the record into very distinctive halves.

From the get-go, they knew Hurricane was their opener and Salt and Shadow was their closer. But yeah, it must've been a challenge as they seemed to counter a slow song with a higher energy song next, something the transition from Hurricane to Blood on the Sand proves.

The question I have is if they wrote their end-of-song tie-ins/transfers to the next song once they knew their sequencing. Or, was their sequencing decided based on the previous song's energy and whether its concluding notes would flow into the intro of another song.

I think they landed with the perfect sequencing, btw. I'm just curious how artists sit down and determine the order. I know when I'm writing, determining scene order is super haphazard a lot of times, but with this precision it's gotta be better than my method.

Moving on, let me rank some things. That's what we do here apparently:

    Songs:
    1. Stare At The Sun
    2. The Artist In The Ambulance
    3. Silhouette
    4. The Melting Point of Wax
    5. Stay With Me/Red Sky

    Top 5 Songs Non-TAITA Category

    1. Stay With Me
    2. Red Sky
    3. Beggars
    4. Digital Sea
    5. In Years to Come

TAITA is one of my top 5 albums of all time and one of the single most important albums in shaping my music listening habits, so it holds a special place in my heart and the songs are much higher as a result of that. I adore all of Thrice's records though.

    Album rank:
    1. The Artist in the Ambulance
    2. Beggars
    3. The Alchemy Index
    4. Vheissu
    5. To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere (Could rise higher but that's where it is for now)
    6. The Illusion of Safety
    7. Major/Minor
    8. Identity Crisis

Somebody previously suggested Seneca to Stay With Me, instead of Black Honey.

I tried it and it actually works better IMO.

However, I get why they chose Black Honey since they consistently countered a softer or slower song with a faster, more energetic OR heavier song next.

Water EP is easily the most underrated Alchemy Index EP. So much beautiful material on there. Digital Sea is glorious, Open Water is life-changing, and Night Diving hits harder for me than most anything on the other EPs because there's so much space to breathe

I think I'm at the place where I can say this album is in my top 3 for Thrice. But I don't think it'll top TAITA and Vheissu, so it's probably peaked.

Black Honey was featured in some WWE PPV promo. It comes in at the 1:01 mark.
