I'm no expert and I'm not positive if it would apply to this situation, but my understanding is that Australia has more strict libel laws than the US, which could make people in that scene hesitant to make public statements. See Geoffrey Rush's recent "misconduct" allegations for reference on how their system is different.

Band just straight up deleted their Twitter.

Edit: all of their social media is gone. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Some members also deleted all of their personal accounts as well.

 

Seems counter productive to blame fellow abuse victims for what a man did. Those tweets make me sad.

It's just sad. Idk. It's sad that so few voices even get heard that there's this feeling of "competition" of voices idk idk I hope she has support and receives any help she needs. I can't imagine her frustration of filing reports and feeling ignored, altho I find her frustration misplaced. Instead of putting it towards the other female victims and survivors it would be productive to direct it towards the patriarchal institutions that have ignored her or shut her down. But I can't even imagine how it'd feel to see ur abuser finally get outed and still have your story ignored. Hope she has loved ones to help her process this trauma.

 

While this may not be the best way to express her feelings, I think there is part of this tweet that rings very true. Which is to say, that despite how horrific or bad the abusers behaviors are, a lot of times reporters use it for clicks especially in the message board and twitter age. Corrine's story would not get the attention of MM or Phoebe which is why she feels ignored.

 

The original NYT article included multiple anonymous sources (seven women). And the authors Joe Coscarelli and Melena Ryzik have contact information on the website -- I feel weird tweeting at someone randomly so I'm not gonna, but I'd recommend she reach out to them, not Phoebe. Joe follows me on Twitter, and I can put them in contact if she messages me as well.

 

I legitimately had no idea about any of this stuff about Capsize and now I don't think I'll be listening to them anymore. Like... they weren't my favorite or anything, but I admittedly have a soft spot for shit that sounds like 2004/2005 Underoath. But now everything about their music just seems gross. The way they're handling this just screams of guilt.

 

That Wil Wagner stuff surfaced a few days ago and I only just heard about it (I live in Australia).

There has not been ANY mention of it in the Australian music media. That is deadset worrying. The silence is deafening.

Hadn't seen the Junkee tweets. I feel like there have been similar allegations against bands/musicians in the past where the allegations have been aired, but could be getting confused. Still disappointing though. Given their love for drama, figured Music Feeds would have bit the bullet and aired the allegations.

 

I loved Capsize. I'm deeply upset that they deleted everything instead of facing the music. They're even worse than all the bands that post bullshit apologetic statements.
