I think the state of Rapture at the start of the game, and the circumstances surrounding its fall, are as strong and clear a statement on the failures of Randian libertarianism as can possibly be made lol. I really appreciated how it took that kind of show don't tell approach to the message.

I’m worried for BioWare, Anthem is probably gonna tank and EA will most likely shut them down

I don't think so. They have enough time and opportunity to fix the game and Bioware is a studio with too much of a prestige legacy for them to just shut down the whole place.

Maybe but I don’t trust EA. That and I’m still salty that they shut down Visceral

The political story part was whatever to me, I don't really remember it frankly, but the time travel shit was so bad at some point, it definitely made it all worse

Rumor: More details on Microsoft's Xbox plans for Switch - Nintendo Everything

Here’s a roundup of what was shared in the article:

I'm not familiar with gamepass, but if all this is true, does that mean the the only way to play these Xbox games on switch is through a subscription service?

To be fair I said the actual Xbox Live integration in relevant games (i.e. Microsoft games like Minecraft) wasn't that interesting, because that isn't really a new thing. Whatever has come out since is significantly more interesting.

Nobody said it wasn't interesting, a handful of us said we had no idea what it meant.

None of this might be true, but if all of it is true I, I would assume you can both buy them and play them via GamePass, as is the case on Xbox. It would really just be Microsoft's next biog step towards becoming a video game service provider and eco-system rather than a simple platform holder.

If it's only partly true, it could be that an Xbox app on your Switch would just turn the screen into just another screen to stream your Xbox games to as is already possible with some other products (like the Surface, or most PCs), which means you would still need an Xbox controller, which means that it really isn't THAT big of a deal after all.

    We'll see.

P.S. I think the possibility of Microsoft moving towards releasing some of their games on non-Microsoft products (well, on Nintendo products at least) are is quite high these days, provided they can somehow keep their own eco-system involved, i.e. through like an Xbox Live wrapper.

Unlike Visceral, BioWare at least already put their insurance policy into motion by officially announcing Dragon Age 4 way, way early. Probably betting EA would rather not suffer the backlash of shutting them down before that game comes out now that everyone is anticipating it, despite it probably being ~3 years away.

I think Microsoft is gonna ditch proprietary consoles and make Xbox a service, which is intriguing

This is a good point. Hopefully DA4 will be good and then Mass Effect can come back. I hope.

I think this is somewhat likely, though I'd guess they'd also sell a box through which you can access the service as well as other stuff, in case you don't want/have one of the others, because why wouldn't they.

  22. I disagree. Everything that game has to say is said in the first hour and it's never elaborated on--the biggest political statement happens in the elevator on the way down to Rapture. The political implications toward objectivism and the glaring issues with Randian philosophy just end up feeling like window-dressing for the real statement the game wants to make, which comes with "Would you kindly?" and the Atlas bait-and-switch. I know that's the part of the game everyone loves to dissect, but that kind of fourth wall break wasn't particularly new or mind-blowing to me at the time, and I think there's a much more interesting story surrounding Ryan that's dropped several hours before the game ends. Infinite has the same problem but drastically more apparent because the story the game pivots to is, in my opinion, awful.

For the record, I like Bioshock, I think it was revolutionary at the time, and it still does so much just absolutely perfectly. I still think games could learn so much from how the Sander Cohen boss fight works. It's full of an extraordinarily memorable moments and Rapture is one of the best video game worlds I can think of. It just does so much so well that its flaws are way more glaring to me in retrospect.

BioWare has more of a prestige legacy and devoted following than Visceral did, so it would be harder from a PR standpoint for EA to get away with it, I think. And like I'm definitely not saying EA wouldn't still shut them down, they usually don't give a shit about anything, just makes it less likely in my opinion.

It would make the most sense. They currently have three Xbox One models, one of which being the most expensive and powerful console on the market, and are the lowest in sales for the generation. Microsoft is the master at making people buy their proprietary software and making it necessary for the every day person for ease of use. Their Microsoft office suite is industry standard and they charge hundreds of dollars for their licenses.

I'm totally on board with them going software only.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

I'm just in wait and see mode with the Nintendo/Microsoft stuff. It's all just rumors right now, if it ends up being true, cool. But right now I'm just going to hold off until things actually happen.
