I had a conversation with a self-proclaimed "libertarian" a couple of weeks ago and it was this display of bizarre acrobatic mental gymnastics to try and twist around every question I asked. He was generally full of contradictions and instead of having belief in any actual "libertarian policy views" (whatever those look like) he was actually just a right-wing 2nd amendment nutjob.

I really tried, I really really did but you can't talk to people who don't even follow their own logic.

I borrowed a Mad Lib book from my teachers class library and me and a friend filled it with things we thought were funny in our ten year old brains (specifically I remember writing "having sex"). Then like a dumbass I returned it to the shelf in class and the teacher found it and we were quickly figured out

one of my biggest blood boiling criticisms with all the shit right now economically is that this administration has dead ass picked literal pirates who have made their billions in industry x,y and z being pirates.... to regulate those industries. that type of corruption is unprecedented.

question though, when minimum wages are increased, what keeps businesses in their respective industries from trying to recoup those costs by hiking prices? does that immediatley make cost of living higher? genuine question from someone whos a laymen with economics. seems like additional accompanying legislation may be required with that to check corps.

Theres a lot of school of thought on it. The link isn’t super clear. If there’s one issue it has tho, it’s not cost of living rather unemployment. It’s important to consider that the minimum wage has been stagnant for a long while tho.

Prices are rising even without minimum wage increases. You might see a small bump in prices from a substantial minimum wage increase, but a minimum wage tied to inflation or some other index/factor will be hard to observe. There are too many factors involved in a cost of living calculation for a given area, that I would say there's basically no correlation between an area's minimum wage and the cost of living.

 

I found out about this guy about a year or two ago on Reddit, someone posted a video of his (he did a cover of We Built This City) on the deepintoyoutube subreddit and I honestly thought it was the most entertaining things I’ve watched but I couldn’t find his name. Flash forward to a couple weeks ago and I saw him pop up on FB, I think @beachdude was a mutual friend, so I added him and I’ve been sharing his videos since. He’s harmless though, nice guy. I honestly give him props for being himself and having the confidence to both do that and look like that with no fucks given about what people think of him.

 

I swear nearly every single ‘progressive’ company is exactly this. and I swear people like Zuckerberg and Bezos et al are actually Republicans.
