Yeah the first likeable character was Ignis and he wasn't likeable till like halfway through

But I did like the interactive aspect where like...you could tell they were friends

 

Great point, easily the highlight of the game was the interaction between the 4 the whole time.

 

I need to replay FFIX because I remember it being good but it didn't really stick with me outside of Vivi

 

Anyways give Yoko Taro the FF license and let him make FFXVI

That's true, most of the games are just about groups that come together as the game progresses and their only connection is the common enemy, so having a close knit group was an interesting change

 

Woah, ugh, I gotta get back into it. I think I gotta get the PS4 version though, I saw the complete set for sale for 50 bucks on Square Enix's site a few weeks ago (couldn't believe my eyes) and I nearly bought it but knew it would take over my life.

 

I'd like the idea of a Yoko Taro FF but I'm also afraid he wouldn't be able to make it charming enough hahaha. FF has always had a certain charm to it that Yoko Taro aims to completely obliterate.

 

Ooh IX is my favorite. Vivi's story is probably the highlight though

 

I miss when games were multiple discs. Idk why I just liked it, it was SO exciting to hit the end of a disc and have to put in the next one. Something about it.

I saw that the creator of ffxiv said in an interview that he would like it if xvi was more of a straight up fantasy, without tech and stuff and it got me wondering if any of them have been like that? I feel like of all the installments I’ve played there’s always been a technological aspect to the worlds

 

The oldest one I've played is Final Fantasy II and from what I remember that one was more or less straight up fantasy

But yeah there haven't been as many as you'd expect

 

IX is definitely like that. I'm pretty sure I read that they intended it to be more of a throwback to classic fantasy and all the technology is steampunky

X isn't futuristic either, but it also doesn't feel like a traditional fantasy world.

 

X is futuristic IMO

 

Like I get why you'd say it's not but from the perspective of someone randomly entering FF, if I entered FFX I'd call it futuristic

That's true but there's also a giant machine that creates a floating sphere of water for athletic activities and there's airships and guns and the like

It seems like a post apocalyptic future sort of. Like Tidus' Zanarkand was completely futuristic but after Sin wiped it out most of that was lost

 

I think the main point I wanted to make is that it's not pure fantasy which is what ikana was asking about, I wouldn't put it in that category because it's definitely farther along
