I will always feel like I have a little built in bias cause Rivers went to my high school haha. But I feel so much better about them now than when like Hurley came out. I now have 5 albums I can say I love (Blue, Pinkerton, Maladroit, EWBAITE, White), Green and Pacific Daydream are quite solid for me, and it's easier for me to ignore Make Believe through Hurley when I really wasn't much of a fan but I can at least take like 2-4 songs off each one that I love. I could never listen to those ones in full though.

If I didn't like this Teal album I would just pretend it doesn't exist. Like how I do with Death To False Metal lol.

I think a lot of people fail to realize how self aware Weezer is.

The difference in response to Weezer doing this and other bands is absolutely jarring, even around here. New Found Glory has three covers records, two of which are purposely funny based on movies; Dustin Kensrue just put out a covers album in 2017; Four Year Strong has a covers album of songs from the ‘90s; MxPx has a whole covers EP, and did a straight cover video of the Ataris literally last week. I don’t know that there was a single negative comment about any of those - everyone just said ‘oh that’s fun,’ both on AP/Chorus, and also around the Internet.

I also did a simple Google search for ‘cover albums’ and discovered a list telling me such embarrassments to music as Rage Against the Machine, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Johnny Cash, Beck, Tori Amos, and David Bowie all made full albums of covers.

I can’t help but wonder why Weezer gets a violent response to doing something harmless and fun and everyone from random punk pop bands to award winning music royalty does the same thing and no one blinks.

Hitsdailydouble has this 4th on their sales chart with 15k so not bad for a surprise album just from Thursday sales

Considering Pacific Daydream debuted at 23 and sold 30k in the 16 months it’s been out, that’s pretty crazy

Wow it took me a minute to realize what you were saying here. They literally sold 15,000 copies in ONE DAY. That's not even including streaming, which added another 2k+ to the sales. That means for the chart next week they'll probably do even better.

I wonder if they regret releasing on a Thursday now. If those 17k were counted towards next weeks chart I'm sure this would chart in the top 10 (for the sales + streaming chart).

Why did they release on a Thursday actually? Didn't even think about that. Was it a special date or something? Why not just wait one more day?

There was a TON of stuff that came out on Thursday, Better Oblivion... came out Thurs also, and there was a couple other things. I've never seen that happen where more stuff came out the day before than the day of.

My thought is that maybe they wanted to release a day before so it didn't get lost in the Friday shuffle of albums, but it seems everyone had that idea.

I understand this not being your thing, and to some extent get the No Scrubs is cultural appropriation idea even though I personally am not so sure about that, this isn't Ed Sheeran singing No Diggity

but also I feel like Rivers and Weezer are nice dudes having fun and managing to remain relevant versus someone like Billy Corgan who's on Infowars or most other 90s alt bands where they just play the songs from the 90s everyone knows and it's fun but name a Sugar Ray song from the past like 15 years you know

This is perfect to play at work if you're in control of the music. You can listen to Weezer, customers recognize the songs, and it's clean. It's great.

New single "Living in LA" looks to be coming Friday maybe

  14. My 2.5 year old loves “Africa”. It’s his favorite song right now. Likes it even more than “Better Now”. Thank you, Weezer!

I am interested to hear it. Musically at least I actually enjoyed Zombie Bastards and Hustle seems like Thank God For Girls where I'll probably like it more in the context of the album.

I mean based on the last 3 albums:
    Back To The Shack
    Thank God For Girls
    Feels Like Summer

First song was pretty easily my least favorite on those other 3 lol. I can't make a single assumption based on Hustle

“Living in LA” could be the title of roughly 90% of the songs on the last two albums

I feel personally attacked by this post because I'm also a huge fan of The Smashing Pumpkins, and probably the biggest Sugar Ray fan known to the world. :seeno: (I do understand your point, though).

I thought the same! I'm still all heart eyes emoji for anything L.A./California related when it comes to Weezer, though! Just hearing the title alone is a safe bet I'll more than like it.

I'm a big fan of the band, even stuff from them that most people don't like, but Beverly Hills is easily in their bottom 10 songs

nah man every one of this band's bottom 10 is from the Raditude era, lmao. Beverly Hills is a bit of silly fun
