And I think there definitely needs to be some strong regulations surrounding the sale of firearms on the federal level. I am not opposed to stronger background checks, waiting periods, mandatory safety training etc...

No, I just realize that the person is the issue and not the tool they're using.

It's hard talking to people who defend guns after what happened in Orlando.

13,286 people were killed in the US by firearms in 2015. This doesn't happen in countries with stricter gun laws. Why can't people like you understand this? It's not complicated.

They're one of the more relaxed states when it comes to gun laws, their handguns still require a background check, though...but rifles/shotguns do not, which is a problem.

People are getting on my ass here, but I'm one of the couple who are actually blaming the person for the crime he committed. All you hear is how if this gun wasn't around, he wouldn't have done what he did...maybe, or maybe killed 10 instead of 49. Still bad, but the fact he is even willing to kill people indiscriminately is a problem that needs to be resolved.

Look at Canada, they allow guns, they put limitations on their magazine capacity, but you don't hear about so many shootings over there...maybe because their people are of a different mindset and don't go through the typical day to day that someone in the "ghetto" over here goes through.

It's like you're completely ignoring my countless posts where I've said the US needs better gun regulation laws, and the fact that AR-15's have no business being sold to just some dude who wants one without a real purpose, even if you don't agree with that purpose.

You're fucking terrible. Finally putting you on ignore for good. Can't take your blatant ignorance anymore.

Good dude, you're well within your right to do so. I'm FAR from ignorant when it comes to firearms and the legality of them.

In your last few posts, you've been downplaying the relevance of the weapon that was used in Orlando. If he didn't have access to weapons like that, it wouldn't have been so easy for him to kill 49 people. Do you understand that?

  15. drstrong

Yes, and as I said he would have killed less people, for sure. But he's still killing people.

Yeah but no one here is saying "just do gun control, ignore everything else". They just think gun control is where we need to start because you can pretty much immediately reduce gun deaths just through suicide prevention alone. The other things need to be done too, but they're solutions that take time to take an effect.

It just feels like people are giving the guy a pass and blaming the gun he used and it's availability.

I'm not even a fucking gun owner! I'm just the type who blindly hate guns.

It's not reality, it's lunacy, because guns are used in mass attacks for a reason... Because they are things you point at people and quickly kill them with. To equate its qualities to a can of gasoline is preposterous because one of those is used millions of times daily around the world to fuel a car and the other was used to murder fifty people last weekend.

Why has no one mentioned the banning of long swords? They're instruments of death and shouldn't be sold to the public. What determines a "useful survival" knife from one used to kill animals?

The world is a crazy fucking place - it wasn't that long ago that Jews were rounded up by the millions by the government - having blind trust for any government is crazy in my opinion

If I could just forget it

The point isn't about the gas or guns.

Removing all guns would stop a lot of gun violence, this I agree with. It does not stop the Florida shooter from trying to kill people. That has to be a component of this discussion.

Because long swords weren't used to kill 13000 people last year haha I'm dying

I have read that there is an estimated 5-10 million AR-15s out there. Does anyone have any data on what the total number of mass shootings in which AR-15s were the weapon of choice in the last, say, 5 years?
