I can't watch. The backlash seems to paint it as disruptive and wildly inappropriate. Yeah?

I've considered buying a gun before, and honestly if i did i'd just get a .22 pistol. Guns as a means of self defense is probably 90% visual/psychological deterrent, and if i'd actually ever be forced to use it to defend myself i'd have a far less chance of killing the person.

    It seems like
I sort of understand what she was attempting to do. But, it is important to remember that the organization is largely decentralized, so there will be shitty activists who do not understand how intersectional struggle actually works. There is a point to be made regarding how "gay = white" in the American consciousness, which combined with the terror aspect, allows people to grieve and I do think it is important to acknowledge that, whilst race operative, it is a component of discourse that needs to be mentioned because people say "it isn't about race", even though it structures how we mourn. But, all that being said, it plays into this oppression olympics that isn't particularly useful. That's just my cursory feeing on the matter.

Also, it looks like conservatives have hopped on it to show how BLM is really the racist ones.

20 gauge shotgun with rock salt shells is ideal for both scaring the shit out of someone, and being non-lethal if you have to use it.

Kill Bill Vol 2 when Beatrix gets shot in the chest if you want to know what rock salt shells are.

I honestly don't think there is any way to make conservatives not be a bunch of lunatics when it comes to BLM

I think given, from what I can tell, that most of the victims were poc, a component of race is worth discussing. Not sure if they were targeted for it but it was part of their identities, especially because of how it and queerness intersect.

I'm waiting for someone in the gop use the tragic assassination that just happened in the UK to say "hey see gun control doesn't prevent gun violence!" You know they're going to jump on that, wouldn't be shocked if it's Trump himself.

The problem is with the gun. Without the gun, he would've been able to kill far fewer people.

If he can commit similar atrocities with other guns, those guns need to be banned to or at the very least modified so you can only legally buy smaller magazines.

Honestly I'm hopeful that somebody makes the point so we can be like "yeah and six people died, thirteen were wounded, and one was paralyzed when Gabbie Giffords was the target in America, moron"

The banning of guns just plain won't happen, there is a chance of doing something with ammo, though.

The death grip the NRA holds over America is kinda beside the point. Sure, they'll make passing any meaningful gun reform a massively challenging task. That doesn't change the fact that ideally, the types of guns people can legally purchase should be significantly reduced.

Even though I like guns, I agree that some of these things have no business in the home and are questionable in the hunting/farming world.

It makes more sense for the ammo, to me at least. You can have all the guns you want but nothing to put in the magazine. The guns will never just go away, but the bullets will.

why not both? If a gun is designed to let you fire hundreds of rounds a minute, you just need a fast trigger finger, that is still a problem. I feel like it would be far easier for people to modify a magazine to fit in more bullets than modify a whole gun.

Would you be scared of a snake if it can't bite you?

That was kind of a stupid analogy but the point is it will be impossible to rally up all of the guns on the streets. It would make more sense to abolish ammo for the public and sooner than later, the ammo stockpile the public has will be empty. So now you're having a bunch of guns on the streets but who cares, they can't hurt you.

Also there are mechanical/thermal limitations on the hardware in the firing mechanism and in the barrel that will limit you to firing only a certain amount before you jam or overheat. You can't just sit there with your finger on the trigger and empty a 30 round clip, then reload and do it again.

I don't know about hundreds of rounds a minute. Maybe 40-60 rounds a minute.

you don't need to rally up all the guns on the street to stop new ones from being sold.

  23. drstrong

    I'm Back.

stoping new ones from being sold doesn't do anything to the already existing massive amount on the street.

stop the sale of guns but keep ammo available, you'll still have some major shit going down on the streets.

  24. clucky

Like I said, I fully support regulating ammo too. It's possible to do both.

  25. drstrong

    I'm Back.

You have to do both, I think any way.

That's all well and good, just let me buy one or two legally and give me rock salt or other non-lethal stuff. I'll bruise the shit out of someone trying to come into my house.
