That article has me even more excited for this record. I take it with caution though, what someone says songs sound like could be way off (look at when Rabbit Hole came out and people thought it was a blink song, but it was Goldfinger?)

    Also, Neighborhoods >> DED..

I hate to admit it, but DED had no lasting value for the most part. Dog Eating Dogs is my favorite track, but idk, every time I give that EP a spin it feels like an hour long. When I was young was good too, maybe I would've enjoyed it more as a full album with more songs to make up for some on the EP

Sure Skiba would've helped there too, I loved some of the bridges on My Shame Is True

You might be able to catch them in Central Park Friday morning. They're performing on GMA the morning of the album release

Funny that they nitpick the excessive "polish" of the album but their article is far from polished.

Very true. And I don't mean to give speculative credit to Feldmann on writing the bridges. Based on his style of handling studio time we've heard about in interviews, I wouldn't be surprised if Feldy was going to pick up dinner and told Mark to write three different bridge ideas before he came back.

Huh? You mean the constant use of "AF" isn't polished and professional? haha

You can't know how much I hate the trending use of "AF" among today's youth.

Yes. This is of utmost concern to me as well. I've been saying this, only with far too many words.

Oh I know, Mark's plenty capable. They just really needed somebody to not let them be lazy and Feldmann seems like the most overcaffeinated workaholic ever haha.

While I don't know what you'd classify Fall Out Boy as these days, is it possible that Blink is using Fall Out Boy's genre leap as a model for their own sound? That would justify Stump's presence on the record even more. However, Mark's been close with those guys for years so it's not a complete surprise.

Blink is trying to return to prominence as well as mainstream relevance (in order to gain new fans) so taking a page out of Fall Out Boy's book isn't a bad approach to take. They had one of the most successful comebacks ever, regardless if you like or don't like their new music.

So, my girlfriend's parents were going to go with us to the show tonight...

but her dad had to fly out of town on business. Our seats are front and center 5th row. I am really thinking I am going to walk back to the lawn and choose two younger fans that look like they deserve it and just upgrade their tickets for them ;)

Definitely love the new songs so far but echo the general consensus that my only gripe will be the lack of difference in Skiba and Hoppus vocally. With that being said, I'm glad Skiba didn't try to be Tom and stuck to his style of singing

None of the songs so far sound anything like the direction Fall Out Boy took.. I don't understand why are people concerned it's not guitar driven or FOB-ish? Everything detailed in that first listen is stuff blink has done at some point. There's been synths and programming on basically every album.

That's a solid move that could potentially change a young fan's life. Plus...I'm more of a lawn guy anyway Hahah.

That article did give me the impression that this was much more into the production aspect than what they've tried before. I was reminded that Travis did talk about Feldy wanting them to try different electronic type beats in certain sections of the songs and it would really take him by surprise, so who knows to what degree they'll utilize those things.

For example, Drum and Bass is a genre of electronic music and that type of beat is what Travis plays in the verse of "Bored to Death" so.... it doesn't mean the terms "heavy production" or "electronic-inspired" insinuates there won't be heavy guitars. I'm not too worried about it. Just excited to see what kind of diversity they bring on this album.

Again, I'm not saying they are trying to SOUND like Fall Out Boy. It's about the genre shift to something more pop-oriented. It's more of a "Blink is adapting to 2016's mainstream instead of 2016 adapting to Blink" type thing.

Fall Out Boy didn't revisit their old sound; they reinvented their sound. They knew that the mainstream wouldn't get excited about them writing a record that sounded like their old records. They wouldn't gain new fans either. So they reinvented the band in a way that fits with today's mainstream taste and it satisfied most of their existing fans while gaining MANY new fans in the process.

So, I'm wondering if Blink modeled their second comeback/new lineup per Fall Out Boy's comeback (on a macro level).

    Give what you can.

I get that way a lot as well, but I always try to keep in mind the old Spiderman saying "With great power comes great responsibility." Anyone with an internet connection essentially has the super power of unlimited information and unrestricted communication. The fact that I'm sitting in Chicago responding to a dude from Brazil within the context of a pop punk band discussion forum is mind-bendingly cool and something I never would have imagined possible as a kid in the early 90's. In that sense, I'm grateful for the positive togetherness brought upon my this infant digital world we call social media. But, waaaaay on the other end of the spectrum are those using this gift to spread hate. That's the flip side.

I don't think kids are inherently worse today than they were ten years ago, or ten years before that. The problem with being born into this new information era is that a great deal of what's available is straight up brain poison. That dude picking on a 4th grader is a perfect example. Real live people more than ever need to spend much more time teaching basic human compassion, because we sure as fuck can't expect kids to learn it from their phones.

On closing down your Twitter- if it's causing you actual anguish then absolutely that's the right choice. And at times, I think our brains forget that we have that choice. It's embarrassing how many times I've looked at my phone and spiraled into the "Facebook... now let's see some Instagram... ok we got some new tweets here... ok it's been 15 minutes something new must be trending on Facebook now..." vortex. And what's funny is I don't even actively participate in any of these platforms- I just gawk like a moron. So, my solution was to just delete FB and Twitter right the fuck off of my phone. It's helped a ton. I can still have FB so my distant family knows I'm alive, and I still have Twitter so I can follow comedians and local venues, but I'm no longer tempted to read stupid shit for an hour just because it's so easily available right there in my pocket. For some reason the pull for me to do that is much less strong on a computer.

Edit: And sorry everyone I know this isn't a very Blink 182ish post. Remember when they covered Billy Idol? So goofy.

They talked so much about how Feldmann studied their discography and said so many times this is a blink record, I don't worry about this straying that far from their core sound. Based on what they've said and what that first listen said, it sounds like the right mix of being familiar but trying some fresh things. Won't know til we hear it I guess haha.

I think blink would have gone that FOB route had Tom stuck around. Like Patrick, his influence was the main catalyst for their sonic shift. Don't really see the FOB comparison in this case. If anything, Feldmann's production will make it more like ATL than FOB.
