Both seasons of American Vandal were great.

That's exactly the kind of thing that makes me excited for it. I've read a little bit about it and critical reaction was positive and I don't care about fan backlash. Divisive movies interest me

It’s a great movie. It’s as silly and fun as the first three, I don’t get the hate for it.

People like to hate, then make sure everyone else hates too

That’s what it feels like. All of the movies are unrealistic pulp action movies with humor. There’s cheesy shit that doesn’t work, but they all have that. Difference is three of them came out when we were kids and one didn’t. They’re all tonally similar and have unbelievable artifacts and storylines.

Really just in general tbh. There definitely are certain movies/franchises that seem to get more hate then others though for sure.

found this to be super boring and slow paced. pretty sure there are only 3 people in this entire film and you can definitely feel that in a bad way. only 90 minutes but feels 30 minutes too long. It's like the most boring and mundane parts of a high school science text book.

Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened
    watched on: Netflix
    Grade: A

this was fascinating. Billy is an awful human being. Ja Rule is a piece of shit too ("it's not fraud, it's... it's false advertising"). i also blame the people who continued to believe in Billy until the last minute and enabled him to think this would actually happen. holy shit some of the facts and info that came out during this documentary, i'm shocked that EVERYONE stayed to help try and make this work and didn't throw up their hands and say "fuck it" and fly back home.

question i'll ask in the Fyre thread - how much responsibility should go to the musical acts? Blink 182 cancelled the day before, even though their agent said that they hadn't paid anything all the way up until this point. like, did they honestly not know until the day before that they weren't going? if they would have cancelled earlier (or other acts) would that have maybe put an end to it before people flew down there? were any of the artists even saying anything about the event? wish the doc would have touched on this a bit.

Also The Departed has aged incredibly and if someone told me it was Scorsese’s finest work I really couldn’t fight them on it. Mark Wahlberg is incredible in it hahaha.

  17. If you think even the first and second are tonally similar ... um... we disagree.

  18. I hate hating one of my favorite directors and a franchise with two movies I love.

They’re similar, not exact. Over the top unrealistic action with humor laced throughout, jovial music, simplistic stories, etc...

  20. I’d recommend a rewatch of the first and second movies. It’s night and day.

The subject matter is darker and there’s more violence in the second, but the vibe with everything else is still an upbeat adventure with quirky funny sidekicks, just like all the other movies.

  22. I recommend watching them back to back. They’re really night and day. (‘Temple’ is rough to watch these days.) The vibe and feeling of those two movies is definitely not the same.

I definitely agree that Temple of Doom is tonally quite different than Raiders of the Lost Ark. It gets much, much darker and is honestly pretty shockingly brutal. The fact that Spielberg is such a master filmmaker just makes it all the more intense. Temple is hands down the one I watched most as a kid though. I didn't enjoy Raiders quite as much when I was younger and didn't fully appreciate it until I was older and more mature.

I don't remember the human sacrifice/lava/burning heart scene upsetting me that much as a kid, but if you just kinda describe what happens with words honestly it's kinda like "holy f---".
