I love both of the new songs. On one hand I’m glad we got them now, on the other hand I wish they’d saved them for the new album

 

If these 2 new songs are an indicator of the direction they’re heading in though, the next album has potential to be every bit as good as Happiness Is or Tidal Wave.

I wonder though if their touring guitarist Nathan contributes any musical ideas to the band at all at this point since he’s been with them almost exclusively for the last 9 years (weird to think about btw).

 

Should just make him official at this point.

I'm guessing they never 'officially' replace Eddie as a band member. There's really no point and I think the band is probably done with trying to make things work with different/new members after all they've been through in the past 20 years.

 

On that Lead Singer Syndrome podcast with John Nolan, he said that since Eddy left for his own reasons, they won't ever close his spot in case he ever wants to come back (as well as the reason why the band themselves don't really talk about it).

 

Would've been cool if, for this release, they had recorded new versions of the songs from WYWTB-NA to have John's vocals on them. Maybe even do it live in-studio like Dance Gavin Dance did on Tree City Sessions.

you know what, the tracklist of this comp is pretty great! solid balance of singles + one deep cut per record

 

They could prob do whatever they want and it wouldn't matter, but they were also at their peak with Fred in the band, can't see them re-doing some of their biggest songs

 

I was genuinely surprised that Adam didn't fight for Miami to appear on it. Hasn't he had multiple emails about how he was crushed that people weren't crazy about that song?

 

I came in here to say this. Listening to it in my car this morning I was so excited to hear his voice sound so amazing

 

I thought Matt nailed it on Live from Orensanz. It actually is my favorite version of that song.

For the actual songs that were compiled for Twenty, I love that Everything Must Go, Call Me in the Morning and 180 by Summer made the tracklist even though they are not singles.

I love Live from Orensanz and I remember after it came out thinking that Matt was criminally underused vocally on New Again because he's great on Orensanz.

 

exactly. I can only assume the reason why was that he's too good. Fred was a strong replacement for john, but matt just sounded like a professional. idk. sounded fantastic in orensanz.
