Woodstock Music and Arts Fair 2019 Tour

Operated by Woodstock LLC and Michael Lang(co-founder of the original ‘69 event),Woodstock Music and Art Fair 2019 will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original festival while reviving the spirit and energy to a new generation.


**This is not related to the Bethel Woods Music and Culture Festival that is celebrating the original Woodstock at the original location.

 

“Woodstock ’99 was just a musical experience with no social significance,” Michael Lang says of Woodstock 50. “With this one, we’re going back to our roots and our original intent”

Organizers won’t be announcing specific acts until tickets go on sale in February, but Lang says that over 40 performers have been booked already across three stages, including some big-name headliners. “It’ll be an eclectic bill,” Lang says. “It’ll be hip-hop and rock and some pop and some of the legacy bands from the original festival.”

He wouldn’t delve into specifics, but Lang did say that some “newer bands” will stage “celebrations of artists from the original Woodstock” that will likely include tribute performances to Janis Joplin, the Band, Jefferson Airplane and Joe Cocker, among others. “Having contemporary artists interpret that music would be a really interesting and exciting idea,” he says. “We’re also looking for unique collaborations, maybe some reunions and a lot of new and up-and-coming talent.”

“Woodstock, in its original incarnation, was really about social change and activism,” he adds. “And that’s a model that we’re bringing back to this festival. It’s a gathering for fun and for excitement and for experiences and to create community, but it’s also about instilling kind of an energy back into young people to make their voices heard, make their votes heard.”

But for now, most people simply want to know who’s playing. And although Lang is talking about “reunions” and “bands from the original Woodstock,” he clamps up when pressed for details. Is there even a slight chance, say, that Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young would put aside their differences for a single night? “I’ve talked to them all individually,” he says. “And it’s a mess.”

Lang admits that Woodstock ‘99 was a mistake made by him granting others the ability to book bands.

This definitely won’t be as good as the original but with activism being the main focus, and Lang having complete control over the artists and bands, I’m looking forward in seeing how it turns out.

 

I remember being 16 when Woodstock 99 happened and me and like 4 of my friends camped out in my parent's living room and watched it on pay-per-view for like 72 hours straight.

Would be cool if they streamed this.

This will be basically in my family’s backyard- 4 miles away. This will be interesting haha if the lineup is good I’m there easily.

 

I didn't realize how much music I listen to that's "politically charged", but just in the past few years a ton of artists with varying sizes of fanbases have put out some great protest music. Fever 333, Death of a Nation, Prophets of Rage, Run The Jewels, Stray From the Path, even the last Neck Deep album. If this festival is done right I have hope that it could be something special.

 

I’m interested in seeing who Lang gets out of the modern scene. Most of the protest music I listen to is from the 60s and 70s. Unfortunately, folk is no longer the lead in that topic but I’m down with whatever.

 

I was planning in bonnaroo this year and part of me wants to wait and see about going to this but idk I’m sure it won’t be that different from a normal festival

That is for the non-official Woodstock event that’s called Bethel Woods Music and Culture Festival. It’s taking place in the same location as the original Woodstock but it’s not being operated by Woodstock’s owner.

It’s confusing because that event and the leaked lineup was being advertised as the actual Woodstock event due to clickbait articles.

It’s totally possible that some artists/bands will play Bethel Woods and Woodstock on different days. According to this tweet, the leaked bands/artists for Bethel Woods were basically “placeholders” in order for Bethel Woods to represent what kind of festival they were wanting to have so that they could get sponsors. Will some of them end up actually being booked? Probably, but they weren’t set in stone at the time that the flyer was made. The tweet was also made before Bethel Woods officially announced the festival.

The competing events really do sum up everything that Woodstock became in the 90s.

 

I blame Bethel Woods for there being two competing festivals. Michael Lang was obviously going to try a 50th anniversary due to him still being alive and half a century is a pretty big number. It’s also been public knowledge since 2014 that he was working on a 50th anniversary event.

Bethel Woods is the real money grab here as they (due to Lang not wanting to use the original spot due to an amphitheater being there) are using the original spot and advertising it as a “Woodstock event” just to try to get people to come out.

 

It was announced that college students aged 18 - 25 will be able to purchase cheaper tickets in a few weeks.

 

Now hold on what about people in that age group who are out of college?? I mean you don't actually have to pay back your loans until AFTER college

 

I'm out of that age range and I'm in college lol
I'm just going to ask a friend at my university to purchase my tickets and I'll send him the amount over CashApp. Surely they won't ask for ID at the festival.

Thinking college students can't be 26 is pretty rude. It looks like I'm already too old for Woodstock.

 

I wonder when the lineup will get announced.
