What's wrong with Gilman St?

 

Probably nothing. I personally just don't feel much of a connection to those bands anymore, although idk if it still has a snooty reputation or not

 

Literally all I know about it was what they said in Green Day's Behind the Music

I'm still into old Green Day

 

Yeah I just know them and Op Ivy and Jawbreaker etc. were all a part of that scene. Sounds like they all butted heads with that place though

 

I know this belongs more in the college thread but can we collectively say fuck this to this syllabus

That's rough but at least it's very clear how to get certain grades, like if you know you've had 3 or 4 Xs you know where you stand.

Yeah totally I just think It’s totally unreasonable. You start at a B? Once you miss more than 3 assignments there’s NO way to get an A and it would be tough to even get a B. Just seems insane to me.

If you miss more then 2 days you also drop a letter grade.
So, for instance let’s say you take one day off because you’ll be out of town or have to work or some other normal reason for missing class that isn’t excused.
Now say you get sick and miss a week of classes (aka 2 days).
Now you’ve dropped a letter grade because youve missed 3 days.

But wait there’s more. If those 3 days each had one assignment (some days there’s 2!) you will get Xs for each of them. Now you’re down another grade and guess what you’re at a D!!
And the only way to pass is with a great final project and I’m still not 100% certain you can pass at that point

Just seems so beyond absurd/unrealistic.
She made it seem like “oh it’s pass fail so all you have to do is make sure you do the work” but one bad week and you could potentially throw away the whole semester. That’s literally bonkers to me.

 

I didn’t even mention the most rich part of that.

She was like "my advice is to look at your syllabus schedule for all of your classes right now and find one day where you don't have anything important going on and letting yourself have a mental health day. It's so important to take care of urself!!"

Like, I appreciate the sentiment but my first reaction was ??? That's now how mental health / mental health days works???
And pretty rich advice considering the severe consequences for missing your class.
Like how blind do you have to be to the stress that you're putting on your students and then say that.
