Hey now, that's not fair. Just because I have different opinions and would like it if people tried viewing things from my perspective doesn't mean I don't listen to people. When I defended a song and then was educated that it was actually misogynistic, I apologized and admitted I was wrong.

I also realize the irony of trying to be right in this response. Clearly I'm an abrasive person and you can dislike my opinions, but you can't just flat-out lie about me.

I'm not properly expressing my side of this topic. I don't think the Switch is a bad system. I never said that. I just don't like all the shady anti-consumer things Nintendo does. That's it. Let's just move on. I concede.

You can't honestly tell me you think Nintendo's online infrastructure is sound and that their stance on backwards compatibility isn't flawed. You have to buy the same game across multiple platforms because they don't carry over and then they abolish virtual console all together making all that money people have spent worthless. The system has been out for two years this March and people are still having problems with their left joycons being faulty which requires you to either buy another expensive joycon or send it back hoping they fix it/give you one that works. You can't back up your data to any external hard drive or anything so you are forced into paying for their online membership to have any kind of security because if anything happens to your system you're screwed. If you send it to them even under warranty they will not recover any of your data. By the way, not all games are compatible with the cloud service. Games like Splatoon 2 and Dark Souls and Pokemon don't allow cloud saves and those are massively popular games that people pour tons of hours into.

I don't understand why people get so defensive at honest criticisms. I've never said "Nintendo is the devil and their consoles/games are abominations" and though I was being facetious when I said they never make intelligent decisions, you can't sit there and ignore legitimate faults in how they operate while you have the whole internet full of articles and facts that support my statements.

i don’t think anyone gets super heated about your opinions on their own, it’s that you’re super rude and devolve to shit like “Nah” when you run out of points. you consistently get called on your attitude and sometimes even own up to it and say you need to be better and then do the exact same thing again. you’re an adult with all the time in the world to assess and refine what you wanna say before you click “Reply”, figure it out and stop derailing things

 

Why are people saying you need the cloud to back up data? Isn't that what an SD card is for?

 

As of now you can’t do that with saves on the Switch. It’s admittedly annoying.

I do wonder how many people are actually really concerned about that though.

 

All this talk makes me want to pick up my switch and play on the couch some more.

Does anyone know how long the current sale is on for? I’d love to pick up breach and banner saga at a tenner a piece but once again my bank card got cancelled for fraud

 

2 days with the Switch and I absolutely love it. So far I only have Smash and Mario Kart but I'm enjoying both thoroughly. Although I do wish in Mario Kart they didn't give you all of the characters and cups from the start. I liked how in the Wii version and even in Double Dash you had to unlock some characters.

Im having a great time in Smash grinding to unlock all the characters. I've been playing online with some friends too and I've experienced no issues at all.

Oh wow. To be fair, that is a really dumb feature to not include. It's not like downloading a save file from the cloud is going to be any faster than reading from a card. If my phone can do it, why not my Switch? :p.

It does slightly concern me because I don't trust Nintendo to maintain their cloud as they release new systems. But I'm also not too worried about losing data.. if my Wii and N64 are still going strong since launch day, I think I should be fine.

 

You could back up saves on WiiU etc. I’m pretty sure that you can’t now because they have had bad experiences with piracy and so on that was made possible in part through the possibility of exporting saves. Not sure of the details exactly. Still, it’d be good. Then again, your SD cards or hard drives will fail too, so in that sense they aren’t a much better solution than Nintendo’s clouds when it comes to permanence.

Also I’m not saying this to defend Nintendo, it’s more of a general feeling: people are too obsessed with maintaining saves of games they will never go back to anyway. I myself am worried about my saves from the N64, GB etc. but at the same time I can’t even be bothered to check, haha.

 

Ah okay I guess I can see how piracy can play into it.

Side question for folks - when playing Smash, have any of you experienced issues/headaches with the Pro controller not having an Octagonal joy stick? I read some complaints that it can make side-B and up-B moves annoying?

 

Oh son of a bitch, Amazon raised the pro controller from $54 to $67 in the last hour or two. Should've jumped on it. I was literally about to buy it haha.
