Thoroughly enjoyed The Conjuring 2--one scene in particular really caught me off guard & I jumped pretty much out of my seat. Good times

    I'm Back.

The Conjuring 2 was pretty awesome. Saw it in a packed theater so some of the reactions were both hilarious and annoying, which makes for a good experience.

I'm probably in the same boat as others relating to the actually scary parts of the movie, and not the jump scares. I mean, there was a few minutes in particular where all of us in the theater were like "come one, what the hell is going to happen!"...so that was awesome, and the payoff was good as well.

Then again there were some really corny, almost Babadook level CGI bits, which took me and a lot of other groaners out of the movie completely.

I think this was right on par with the first, if not just a tad better due to the scene I mentioned.

This weekend I watched "Cell" , "Girl In Woods" , and "Bound to Vengeance".

Cell was decent. I loved the book way too much to really get into the condensed way they moved through the story in the movie. I actually like John Cusack ( I know , I know ) and thought he played the part well. Acting was decent and CGI was decent as well. I would give it a B-/C+ .

Girl In Woods to me personally was pretty bland, has a couple of good moments but just didn't seem to deliver what it wanted to. Kind of dragged on and on to me. Cool concept but again, to me, it just did not deliver. I would give it a C.

Bound to Vengeance was great. I really enjoyed it the whole time. The whole intro to the movie was great. Acting was decent, violence and effects were realistic/believable and it kept my attention throughout. I could nit pick all the things wrong with it, but I don't really care to right now. I would give it a B+

I don't think the cgi bothered me too much in conjuring 2 cause I guess I thought it was supposed to look cartoonish and childish and not realistic cause it was a manifestation of the child's fear from his toy. It wasn't my fave part but I didn't mind it

My fave part was that creepy nun demon just chilling. Maybe it's all the nun horror stories my dad has told me from his Catholic school days idk lol

    I'm Back.

That was the part I was talking about earlier. That entire scene with Farmiga locked in the room was super intense. That fucking picture, the way it was lit and how the camera held on that image was like come one man, do it already!

  10. Loved The Conjuring 2. Not as memorable as the first one, but just as ambitious, if not more, imo. A little too long (2+ hrs!), but the horror set pieces are so great and never get stale. The camera work is fantastic. I love that the camera is pretty much always moving. That scene with the painting was terrifying.

damn, so it's at least close to being on par with the first? might have to go see it tonight if that's the case.

The part with the painting is worth the price of admission. I haven't been so tense for a long time.

I think the third act in this one is a lot stronger than the first, which devolved into a pretty standard exorcism in the end.

Also I was thinking about his these would be a pretty good entry point into the genre for younger viewers

I might like it more than the first I still need to rewatch that one. The movie was long but didn't feel like to me. It felt like a theme park ride where there's the scary or creepy parts where I'm like ahhhhh and then finally it slows down a bit but you know at any second it's gonna get real again so I was on edge a lot. I feel like in lots of movies there are like resting points where I'm not on edge anymore but there weren't many in this movie. I liked the first one but I didn't feel that way during it and I def agree that it was a pretty standard exorcism in the end.

The Conjuring 2 was good. Because of my expectations, it wasn't as much of a pleasant surprise as the first, but I don't know that it was really any lesser of a film. The set pieces were fantastic - he's really just getting better and better at those - and he's a deft filmmaker, so it was a little frustrating when he threw in the random jump scares, especially when SO MANY scenes are incredibly well-crafted and the tension very effectively drawn out and whose construction totally earn the subsequent jump scare; it just felt detrimental to the genuinely creepy atmosphere when jumps appeared with little to no setup. I'm also not at all one to complain about length when it comes to movies, but I did feel like this was a little longer than what I'd personally consider justifiable. Still, I enjoyed it and the camera work was great per usual. Wan is getting better and better at mastering atmosphere + the jump scare, even if some of them felt hackneyed.

And I had the same thought as @Kiana about the painting, that it felt a bit counterintuitive, haha, but I'm glad it happened because the scene it eventually set up was rad.

Finally saw the witch last night...scared the hell out of me. I just moved into my new place which is in more of a wooded area than my old home. I didn't leave the apt today.

I need to rewatch it, but I think it's one of my favorite horror movies of the decade. The longer it sits with me the more fondly I think of it.

I went into it expecting a lot less spooks and more atmospheric horror. Within the first ten minutes I felt scared, anxious, disturbed, and uncomfortable all at the same time. Can't think of any other horror film that blended all those forms of fright so well.

I bought it the week the bluray was released and still need to rewatch it. In the theatre I had no idea what to think until the last scene

Watched The Babadook today. I generally like movies that blur reality with psychosis because it forces you to look for small clues and details to find the line between the two and I think this movie did a good job at that.

Didn't watch the trailer yet, but goddamn Sherri Moon needs to go away, unless she's in assless chaps, which was great in 1000 Corpses.
