Literally nobody is talking about momentum from season to season haha. You said that. That’s not anyone’s reason for not tanking.

If team management is not gonna put in the effort to win all 16 weeks, that’s the surest way to make players feel slighted for putting their bodies at risk, and to make fans feel slighted for buying tickets.

What you then have is a city and a roster with low morale - aka, not caring about the team. Sure, you’re not gonna keep momentum, but you also lose any way of getting it back when your top players walk.

It’s also fucking shitty to lose on purpose to a team when that loss seriously affects the playoff picture for all the teams still in it.

Yes because tanking isn’t a “strategy”... it’s cheating the parity of the league, and disregarding tax dollars and ticket costs and the sacrifices of players, that go into hosting those last few games. If it’s your job, and a lotttt of money and people rely on your job, you should always be doing it to the best of your ability period.

It’s shameful to fold your arms when you’re a losing team and give up and allow a shitty product on the field and have players get hurt for nothing, so you can cheat yourself a better draft pick. To me that’s called being a sore loser and wanting a better participation trophy.

It still matters to the rest of the league who you beat and who you don’t, imo it’s literally unfair to give away wins.

 

Yeah sorry if I'm an Atlanta fan I couldn't give two shits about that Cardinals game. That win cost them a generational talent. I don't want a win, I want success.

It didn’t cost them anything. They weren’t bad enough to earn that high pick. The Cardinals are worse. You can’t look at it like “oh they HAD a high draft pick”, draft order isn’t decided till the end of the season after the competition has ended and the results are determined.

Before that point a team’s job is to try to win, even if they are 3-10 their job is to try to win and put out something watchable to the thousands of fans who bought tickets and the millions who are dedicated enough to tune in. So that players aren’t going out there getting paid millions of tax dollars risking injury for nothing.
