I will! I have so many new albums to catch up to lately, so diving into a veteran artist's discography is a bit daunting at first, but I'll take the next few weeks to listen to every single releases of hers!

The infuriating things is that "Mariah Carey has nothing to prove. Her new album, Caution, is her victory lap around an industry that attempted to dispose of her" was exactly the narrative around The Emancipation of Mimi. All of this despite the fact that she has only made really good albums in between these two. The "industry" needs to fuck off.

Her vocals on the song of Common's new group are some of the best vocals I have heard this year. Also, Full Moon is still one of my favourite R&B albums.

Nice. I have tickets for a Mariah Carey Christmas shows in two weeks, but I’m having this ongoing problem with my ears so I think I might not be able to go :(

Maybe a slightly liberal use of the term R&B, but whatever.

 

I also have to say that there are a lot of R&B songs that I adored that are on albums I don’t care all that much for (Mario’s “Drowning”, for example) or that aren’t on any albums (Ray J’s “Feeling Like Love”, for example). Same goes for mainstream hip hop and all the UK sub genres.

 

“Tell Me” by Usher remains imo one of the most underrated songs I’ve heard by a superstar artist on his level of popularity. The slow build and atmosphere of the track is really amazing, and feels unlike anything else he’s done.

I have never heard this (it sounds vaguely familiar but I think that might be a coincidence) and neither googling nor shazaming works as you probably know. I think your best chance might be some kind of sample nerd forum (like for example this one) because those people know a lot of obscure records. Unless someone else here knows it.
