We all know this. But that isn’t okay. I think it was an article about the Washington football team signing Reuben Foster, who has assaulted his girlfriend multiple times. Organizations will do this as long as we let them. #MeToo wouldn’t have had the traction it did if we as a collective didn’t start believing survivors and demanding accountability. Not to say it’ll ever be perfect, but just throwing your hands up and insisting “this is how it works” over and over again gets us nothing because it only works if we let it. It’s why Louis CK shouldn’t be able to go onstage without boos and heckling, why people SHOULD raise hell whenever someone who has harmed others gets put in the position where they don’t have to account for it and will continue to gain status and leverage to potentially use against others again. Do you get what I’m saying at all?

 

I didn’t say let’s through up our hands. I did say that’s a reason why it happens.

Also, it’s about power and how people handle their power. It’s how producers and higher ups have got away with doing shady and illegal things. It’s not limited to Hollywood though. Teachers and students have relationships (and that generally means minors) happens more often than people would like to admit as well. The thing is, it’s very clear obvious and defined in education and legal world. As producer trying to get an actress to strip in an audition for a potential nude scene sounds sketchy, but it not like that can’t be a thing that happens because it may happen in the film and totally be above board and legit. And sometimes it a total abuse of power. That’s why I say blurry. Sometimes ok, sometimes not ok.

But TV and film has a lot of issues, like work day length and safety issues too. Blurry, like safety. People went to see Deadpool, even though a stunt actress died making the movie.

I don’t know how familiar you are with the Sarah Jones situation.

Honestly the vibe of all of these comments is very strange to me but I’m not sure how to articulate it.

 

It’s unfortunate that every awards season get swirled up in some form of controversy, whether it’s movies, actors, snubs, wardrobe, people saying the wrong thing on the card, politics, or whatever.

I probably won’t watch this year, but I do love seeing the right people get acknowledged for their work.

 

I don't really care about the Oscars that much, but at the same time, it's still an event of sorts. I like guessing what will win (and entering contests/sometimes betting with friends), I like acceptance speeches of stuff that I like winning, I like cringing and laughing at the stupid shit, etc.

I said they’d pick a TV show of comics. Never heard of the Hello Show, but I know who Nick Kroll is. Is this actually true though?

 

I would watch just for Kroll and Mulaney

I feel like mulaney and kroll will host the globes eventually but they’re too...I don’t know, funny?...for the Oscars.

 

Yeah but the academy is desperate for a host this year. They might actually have to settle for someone who’s funny.

 

They have an unbelievably good back and forth, I would love to see it so much. Plus most of the crowd already knows them because the last two spirit awards were pretty Oscar heavy.

 

Plus Mulaney is probably a bigger film nerd than any other host would be

Would totally be down for Mulaney and Kroll cohosting, but only if it's as themselves for the monologue and they just did a Oh Hello sketch somewhere in the middle or something. I feel like it'd be too much for them to do the entire show as that.

 

I'm imagining Rachel Bloom doing an Oscars opening musical montage and now if I get anything else I'll be upset
