  10. How do they manage to pull off dense and cinematic albums at this quick pace? To think we're already getting another one in a few months is mindblowing. We don't deserve them.

    I just love this quote:

“When we’ve been at our proudest, it’s when we’ve been at our boldest. It’s when we stand by ourselves and think of ourselves as The 1975. What would that band do? What would the band that scares us a little bit do?”

The first few somber piano chords in the intro of this album are soooo good. Sets the mood.

listen without prejudice is a great comparison actually, even though "mine" is way more "kissing a fool" than "cowboys and angels" for me (complete shot in the dark: "frail state of mind" will be their "cowboys and angels")

it's also funny that listen without prejudice was supposed to have a dance music-oriented companion album which... never came out (albeit mostly bc george spent the next four years fighting with his record label)

I haven’t stopped listening to this album. “I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)” is a song I needed when I was younger and as soon as I finish that thought the next thought is “and I still do.”

As for “Be My Mistake”, I agree with all the criticisms. I like the instrumentation, but the lyrics are a bit disappointing because of what Matty said about the song in that Pitchfork article:

I really wish the lyrics had been more geared toward that feeling. I’ve been there and it’s fucking awful. That moment you come out the other side of it only to look around and realize who you’ve pushed away in the process of whatever it was you thought was worth chasing, to realize what you’ve missed in the process, to see the photos of people and places you missed during that period, is gut wrenching. If the lyrics expressed that then it would probably be one of my favorite pieces here.

This band is the perfect distillation of so much of the music I grew up listening to with my mom and the more innovative music of the present. I oddly feel this connection to her and my adolescence when listening to ILIWYS and Inquiry.

I always say to my Dad, if you were my age you’d be all about the 1975. It’s a weird connection and I think he sees my obsession over the band and it reminds him of how he used to feel about music back in the day

I missed the conversation yesterday about "Chocolate" - but I too will say it's a banger and it's super fun to play on guitar.
