  1. Some of Good Charlotte stuff is dated, some of it also made me expand my 11 years old tastes at the time so I'm grateful.

    hmmm

Yeah I think they were probably a good gateway band for a lot of teenagers. A lot of bands from that "scene" were at least good for that. In the same way that nu-metal bands like Linkin Park or Limp Bizkit, neither of whom I like, were also good pathways into far better bands.

Good Charlotte only matters because their song "Lifestyles of The Rich and Famous" was in one of the best movies of all time:
    Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star.

Good Charlotte has aged a lot better than Simple Plan, which isn’t saying much, but ya know

"Girls & Boys" by Good Charlotte aged terribly (not that it was good for its time). It sounds like an anthem for incels.

Fun reminder that Joel Madden dated 16 year old Hilary Duff

A very weird time in pop culture. He also fat shamed Kelly Clarkson when he took a joke she made in jest about Hilary Duff wrong.

  10. If we’re talking bad lyrics from their past idk if it gets much worse than the one where they romanticize brutally murdering a guy because they’re jealous of and think it will impress his girlfriend

Good Charlotte has a handful of pretty great songs, “Predicatable” and “The River” come to mind and their first album is a lot of fun pop-punk.

A Simple Plan always came off to me as a knock-off hybrid of Blink and NFG. “Welcome to My Life” is as equally embarrassing as “Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous,” considering they were all coming people that were pretty well-off at that point.

I think they serve different purposes

GC is more like yaaas I'm angsty about the jocks and the preps and I'm punk af and I'm mad at my parents

Simple Plan is more like waaah I'm never good enough and I'm misunderstood and nobody gets me and I'm mad at my parents

  21. I feel like I still see it thrown around here and there but yeah you’re right, it’s way less prevalent nowadays
