Haha forgive me. You've stumbled onto like, one of the biggest pet peeves of mine any film has had. And I LOVE Aaron Sorkin. I genuinely like the movie for a movie, but i spend so much time running stats in my head during it like "YOU GUYS WERE GOOD THOUGH!"

Losing Newton was the biggest blow. He made such a major turnaround and had the freakiest injury I've seen in so long.

I completely understand trading Duane Brown in retrospect and it sucked starting that Osweiler season without him, but it felt like that was bound to happen. The Newton injury changed everything IMO.

Bortles was on a rookie contract, was the worst "franchise" QB through that time, and this team was basically one missed call away from the Super Bowl because of how the team was built. If we had Andy Dalton instead of Bortles, I like our chances there.

Plus Brooks hated O’Brien so he left for philly, Ben Jones got a better contract from Tennessee

The interior seems ok now but the tackles still suck

Luckily we have a 1st and 2 2nds to draft OL

Since 2002, the last major division realignment, there have been 2 maybe 3 Super Bowls won by a team that didn't have a franchise quarterback.

Uhh, yeah, that's what I've been saying this whole time.

I'm not saying don't have a franchise QB. I'm saying don't pay elite money to a QB who doesn't play on an elite level. Which is funny because if we're going off Super Bowl winning teams, those stats back me up haha.

Since realignment the AFC has been won twice by a non-Brady/Manning/Roethlisberger QB

Those 2 other teams' QBs were Rich Gannon and Joe Flacco so take that as you will.

Manning’s second super bowl doesn’t count for backing up that elite QB stat

No doubt, than Kirk Cousins should be the example. He got paid elite money and isn't elite.

I know all of you remember this. There was a debate between “should they start Osweiler or Manning” in the playoffs and it was a legit intriguing question!!!

The Vikings have a better team than last season in every single way and I fully expect me to be blocked by this entire website if the Vikings don't get back to where they were last year.

I can't think of any other rosters that coasted off having an easy schedule and crumbled the next year when they had a real #1 seed schedule

The problem is everyone exaggerates the hell out of the Bortles narrative. He's bad but he's not as bad as everyone thinks. It's been him AND a terrible offensive attack, both of those things are the problem. For example, a lot of people point to turnovers but aside from a 4 INT game vs KC that hasn't been the issue at all. I'd also say he at least gets away from sacks and gets rid of the ball on a regular basis.

Two high-investment offensive tackles and our top two WR getting ACL tears during that time frame had a LOT to do with that. We also just downright drafted poorly at offensive line, and at WR aside from ARob. Our RB keeps getting hurt too. Imagine the Cowboys without Tyron Smith & another starter on the line, Zeke missing 50% of his games, and then Amari Cooper tearing his ACL right after you shipped off Dez for his injury woes. We'd be saying the same things about Dak Prescott.

Defensive teams that succeed with bad QB definitely exist, but they do it with quality pieces around him. They find ways to take pressure off him and make every pass attempt easy. That is where the Jaguars have failed, both in terms of drafting depth and simply in terms of their key playmakers taking care of their bodies and staying healthy.

Bortles was never given a favorable situation to succeed, even last year he had his WR1 out all year and his WR2 & WR3 both missed 6+ games. I certainly blame him for a lot of things but our issues are bigger than that, and it doesn't mean our defensive talent isn't HIGHLY valuable in the grand scheme of team building. We could have done much better in spite of Bortles with a good OC / playbook and a healthy corps of skill position players, and maybe he might have even developed a little better.

  23. not bortles fault they didn't run a single play action vs pittsburgh

Well the Vikings record doesn't indicate that.

That did happen in weeks 9-11 in 2017, and a few more with Zeke gone and a few starters, and people were calling Dak the worst quarterback in the league and is only a good backup.

My whole point of this conversation is that in a league with the cap rising so much every year, unless you get lucky in the draft and find a good franchise quarterback, you have to either break the bank on one in free agency or have an all time top ten or so defense in order to win a Super Bowl or win consistently year in and year out.
