I hated KB and Funchess. But I also rooted for Auburn vs FSU and was so mad to watch KB exercise his skill of being tall.

If you take road 2 the chances are high that you wouldn't be going anywhere. I'm not sure I'd take defense over the most important postion in the sport.

And Stephon Gilmore really isn't THAT expensive for how well he's playing

There’s enough examples of great defenses compensating for lesser offenses to Super Bowls. Sure it’s better to have a GOAT QB, but obviously... easier said than done. Much less just a “very good” one like Wentz

Yeah, I know, and I"m saying that's not bad. 27 is the market - that was a massive overpay when Stafford got that contract years ago, but now that is the market. Alex Smith is getting 31 and way more guarantees to fucking suck. Cousins is a very good but not great QB and cost 33. What do you think Wentz/Goff are gonna cost? I'm betting 34+.

You also ignored the whole, 75% of his guarantees already paid, thing. If he sucks after his ACL injury and looks bad next year they can LITERALLY cut him for dead money of like 4 million and net cap savings of 23 million.

NFL is definitely the hardest sport to build a team around because of the cap, it makes things interesting year to year on who the good teams will be, for the most part

The most important position in the sport is kind of a misleading statement. It's not like I'm NOT having a QB. Like yeah, it's the most valuable position but how many great QBs have never won? Now how many BAD teams have won? The latter number is A LOT smaller.

I don't know how you can complain about how shit Bortles is and how far it's set your team back on here daily and not take someone like Wentz over a great defense. The last 3-4 years is a picture perfect example of how to not build your team properly.

The problem with this though is the league has turned SO much more in favor of offense, even as recently as this past offseason. That's the direction the league is going, and all of a sudden good defenses can't play as well as they used to because their playstyles are being rulechanged to oblivion. The one constant is the offense, and the QB.

  11. remember when peyton manning played worse than blake bortles and won a super bowl?

Adding to the Drew Bledsoe thought, Brady's rookie year is the only year BB has ever kept 4 QBs on the roster. Bill wanted out of the Drew Bledsoe business so bad he said fuck it, i'm burning a roster spot on a 6th round unathletic schlub just to have as many options as possible.

  13. It doesn’t matter how good your defense is, if you have a poop QB you’re team will be bad more times than not. There’s an exception every once and awhile.

Did they sustain the success after with that defense or did they miss the playoffs the next 2 years?

I'm talking about being a contender for multiple years, not just making a 1 year run at the Super Bowl (which the Jaguars just tried). All other years with Peyton Manning, he's been one of the all-time greatest QBs, so that argument doesn't hold THAT much weight.

27 is literally 5th highest. Alex Smith is getting 31?? How so?

weird because Blake Bortles has more playoff wins than Carson Wentz.

@CarpetElf 27 is 5th highest, yes, because the most recently signed quarterbacks always set the market.

Like i said 27 is the market and if you have a good QB they could demand a lot more on the open market and risk walking

Can't believe these professional GMs keep signing (mostly) proven players at the most important position in football to big contracts!!!

One last thought because I mentioned Moneyball and now I'm mad.

That movie completely glosses over how fucking good Barry Zito, Tim Hudson and Mark Mulder were.

Your Texans are proving that good defense still prevails. So are the Bears. And weirdly the Cowboys. IT might be different teams doing it, and maybe that says something about how hard it is to have a SUSTAINABLE elite defense... but that dynamic still exists around the league.

If I were a GM, I'd spend every asset I've got to find the guy at QB, and then I would draft nothing but fat guys. Gimme a stud QB and as many good offensive and defensive linemen as possible and i'll fill in the rest with converted QBs to WRs for all I care.

See, I keep hearing this and I have to agree to an extent obviously. But we’ve seen this story before with elite offenses like Atlanta just two years ago. I’m not saying the chiefs won’t make it, I’m just not sold on this “defense is dead” idea until we get a larger picture of this stuff

Like Bomani Jones said, Mahomes “has a lot of YOLO in him.” And it’s great when it’s great. But I don’t know if I want to rely on an inexperienced QB to gunsling me through the playoffs
