Honestly this sounds exactly right. The pressure has been there but they aren’t finishing the sack. Lately it’s because Duwane Smoot is a lot slower than Dante Fowler.

Telvin Smith has been having a similar season. His coverage has been as good as always but QB are throwing at him anyway this year, and he isn’t getting it done at the catch point. So many third down passes have been completed right over Telvin this year.

 

I thought Rodgers was a garbage QB

Oh he touched the ball alright.

Always on first down.
Always up the middle.
Never a toss play. Or a stretch. Or an off-tackle. We only use Yeldon for that apparently.
Never a swing or dig or option route.
Never a screen.
Never called play action.

Hence why the Steelers basically just were blatantly invited to run blitz the A & B gap every first down and force 5 straight 3 and outs to win the game.

 

I cannot get over how badly Hackett sabotaged the last few games

 

Like I don't think there's such thing as a bad stat in the right context

But we don't know NEARLY enough about QBR and I'd like to understand it better before attempting to base performances off QBR

Right now I'd rank it:
1. Passer rating
2. PFF grade
3. Plain old stats
4. QBR

 

Same with the AFC championship game. That game should have gotten what's his face, hackett? fired.

 

It’s pretty cool and weird to be the only well coached team in the AFCS

McDaniels backing out was a godsend for the Colts

Yeah I thought McDaniels backing out was funny and snakeish but god as soon as I saw they got Reich instead I was mortified

 

Thank god Reich left the Eagles to go there.

 

Well actually I just watched the AFCCG and nah, different problems in that game. The main similarity is we failed to stay aggressive and we ran every first down, but we actually did give Fournette the ball in space and gave him runs outside the tackle box that game. Our rushing attack was a lot more versatile then, than the slop we’ve been putting out there lately.

 

Still should've fired Hackett. Still showed he was bad bad very bad.

 

Our playcalling has been a lot worse this year. Kinda recoiled into bad habits, because we’ve been trying to protect our offensive line from having hard assignments, since so many of them have been injured.

The Texans have been handling their poor OL the right way - keep playing the way you play, and trust your QB to give himself extra time becuase that’s the main skill you drafted him for.

We should be doing that too, Bortles is at his best when he’s running around and not stuck on a script. And our linemen would be better at blocking runs up the gut if we changed it up enough for the defense not to predict it.

 

That’s better than I was. I was indifferent on the Reich hiring, annoyed with McDaniels, and have been very pleasantly surprised that he’s been very good so far

 

Stupid Jaguars losing that game helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl. I bet that defense could have stopped Foles. Ugh.

 

I just feel like, we have a RB who has so much raw skill, both one of the fastest and one of the most powerful in the league... why would we not take advantage of that and give him the ball where small DBs and OLBs have to try to tackle him? Why do we only want to ram him into crowds of 300 pound dudes?

He’s great at short yardage and I get that, but I think one of Hackett’s worst mistakes is limiting him to being an interior back. He’s not LeGarrette Blount. Fournette can shake one on one tackles like nobody’s business. He needs to be given the ball in space 7-10 times a game.

 

So I have some concerns with the Steelers remaining schedule. Not beating the Broncos was bad.

They play the Chargers, Raiders, Pats, Saints, and Bengals. The only gimme game on paper is the Raiders (Steelers suck vs the Raiders). Bengals are garbage but they'll love trying to spoil the Steelers season.

They need to beat the Raiders and Bengals and steal one from Chargers, Pats, or Saints. Tall order.

The Ravens have an easier time, with the tough games being the Chiefs and the Chargers. The Browns at the end of the year could be a tough one. They should beat Atlanta and Tampa Bay.
