The 1975 - A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships (November 30, 2018) Album • Page 406

  1. I think there’s been at least an album every two weeks that’s knocked me on my ass. That actually makes me kinda sad others haven’t found the same.

My top 3 is definitely Foxing, FOB and this. I don't really know how to rank them except Foxing is probably third (despite being a phenomenal record), it's just these two bands/albums mean a ludicrous amount to me in a way Foxing simply hasn't had enough time to achieve yet. I don't really keep track of the albums I listen to b/c I'm lazy and dumb, but this year has been really great for me

  3. Same for me earlier in the year, especially between April-September. I’ve gravitated to less albums this month but that’s okay. No album has emotionally hit me the way Melodrama did last year, thankfully, did not enjoy feeling like I was reliving my worst breakup! Overall, 2018 has been incredibly consistent. Discovered so many new artists and tons of artists realllly stepped up their game

This year has been bonkers for me personally. This could very well only end up like, 7 on my list when last year it would have been an easy 2, maybe even 1

I feel like there hasn’t been any 10s for me this year but there’s been like fucking 30+ 9s

I haven't really been wowed by a full album since ILIWYS honestly. It's sad.

Why I’m glad I hated my favourite band, The 1975

Lol. Did anybody post this? Been skimming back and couldn’t see it. Been waiting for NME to acknowledge previous comments about the band for a long time, considering they’ve done a complete U-turn.

  8. ah yes, the old 'shit on a band everyone seems to like until you want to seem cool'. same as it ever was with NME

They’ve been fewer and further between for me this year, to the point where this is probably my least favorite music year since 2013 or so. I’ve had 6-8 that have really blown me away. A lot of growers. A LOT of disappointments. I feel like I’ve been in an odd place musically, though. I’ll be interested to talk about this if we do an EOTY podcast again.

I’d agree that while there’s been a TON of really great albums that I enjoyed and came back to, this has been a relatively slow year in terms of albums that’ll be with me in a decade. 2016 was the last year where it felt like an overload of game-changing masterpieces: 1975, Bon Iver, Frank Ocean, Touché Amore are all top 10 of the decade contenders for me.

Last year was a year where it felt like everything in my top 30 could have been in my top 10. This year I have a very firm top 10 and then almost everything else feels like stuff I'd normally put in the 25-40 range.

Honestly, Now, Now and this album. TSSF and Real Friends released good pop-punk releases that I go back to, but nothing packed much of a punch. Julien was last year correct?

2015 was the embarrassment of riches for me. I feel like I'll end up putting like 20 albums from that year in my end-of-decade top 100.

Threads is one of my favorite albums of all time, and I understand that Saved is definitely good, it just didn't click with me and I never really went back to it.

I like both albums, but overall same. I listened a couple times then basically forgot about it.

"Be My Mistake" is trash, easily their worst song -- if it wasn't for my OCD I'd delete it from my library. Obviously I need to spend some more time with it, but definitely not as good as Sleep.
