I think a lot of people out there (media, fans, etc) want to read into new blink music as if there will be jabs at Tom. Like the album is a "fuck you" to him. What we do know is that Mark and Travis have repeatedly stated that they are just wanting to carry on the spirit of what blink-182 means to them. They just want to have fun making and performing music, and they've been very considerate of Tom's wishes to do his own thing in interviews and whatnot. They don't seem to want to dwell on it much when asked about band drama, and writing lyrics about it would almost invite that sort of thing. So, I don't think that writing lyrics about Tom on a blink record, particularly with bitterness, adds up. It would go against what they're trying to do: Have fun and write some blink tunes. It really doesn't need to be dissected any more than that.

Maybe "All Of This" - "Here's Your Letter" - "I'm Lost Without You" or "Here's Your Letter" - "I'm Lost Without You" - "Not Now".

This is a really tough one. If I target my favorite blink songs off any album, there's seems to be one song that is kind of a dealbreaker in a three song stretch. Usually it's because of an overplayed single like First Date or something. Maybe Feeling This, Obvious, and I Miss You, even though Untitled isn't my favorite album of theirs. I'd have to think about this more.

I was having this problem too. Pathetic and Dammit are favorites but not voyeur.

Well, that's not my intent. But until I hear that Tom has released his shares in Blink 182, then I think it's fair to say that a return is feasible someday.

Recently, when asked about Tom returning someday, Mark even said, "I'll never say never to anything."

But I guess I'll stop posting so frequently. It seems that if you don't sugarcoat all things blink-182, you just draw the ire of the other half of this thread that is glass half-full about everything they do, good or bad.

I want the record to be good, believe me, but that doesn't change the fact that the first two singles are disappointing (to me) and lack the guitar playing I've loved from Blink.

Sorry to Jason, Fenix TX, Caper, Quiet Things, BTD, ChrisCanInFactWrite and Brandon339.

I like from "Go" to "Here's Your Letter" a lot. To focus on three, maybe "Easy Target", "All of This", "Here's Your Letter". "Untitled", "Apple Shampoo", "Emo" is a good one. "Stay Together for the Kids" through "Everytime I Look For You" is a strong stretch, again to whittle to three, maybe start with "Roller Coaster", to include "Everytime I Look For You", one of my very favorites.

Pretty much all I know about Blink I've learned from this thread and I still haven't had an issue expressing my opinion here. I think it more so has to do with how pretentious you've come across in stating your opinion and constantly dropping ~super secret insider info~ to hold your opinion to a higher standard than everyone elses. Saying "I think these guitar parts aren't as interesting as they used to be" is a lot different than going on and on about appregio's and how you perceive the current guitarists lack of skill is making the music worse. You just keep saying in so many different ways "this band doesn't sound like it has Tom in it anymore and I'm not happy about it" and it's just that, everybody who's going to, gets that at this point and is sick of hearing it.

I was going back and forth on this too. I love Untitled but, Josie wins for me. I think Josie sometimes doesn't get the respect it deserves because it got overplayed.

And I guess it's finally time to go listen to apple shampoo. I don't think I've seen any other song mentioned more.

So, is it that they don't perform this song often or they do and you guys just love it a bunch?

  21. Daniel182

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

They rarely ever perform it. Since the band reunited in 2009, they have only played it a couple times in 2013. Plus we just love it a bunch.

I understand what you're saying. I really don't mean to come across as pretentious. I just have a bit of insight on Feldmann since there's a person in my life who knows him as well as anyone and played a huge role in his career. I can't reveal too much more than that without violating privacy. But, yeah, I can see how that comes across as pretentious.

But to clarify, I'm fine with Tom not being in the band, I'm just worried that the guitars on this record will go by the wayside if the first two songs are any indication. I'm a guitar player by trade and Blink always had something interesting to offer in that arena. I'm not saying that Tom was Yngwie Malmsteen but he wrote a ton of hooky parts that were fun (and easy) to play.

I harken back to Transit (of all bands) as their final record JOYRIDE suffered immensely by not having their longtime guitar player Tim Landers in the band any longer to handle guitar tracking. Their other guitar player could play Tim's stuff without any problems but writing like Tim is a different story. As a result, the guitars on JOYRIDE were very straightforward and predictable. Prior to Joyride, I knew I'd always hear something interesting with Tim playing guitar. I'm sure some of the JOYRIDE songs were written by Tim, but the leads or bells and whistles he'd add to those songs were noticeably missing.

Transit is no blink-182 but I'm just speaking to the absence of a band's founding or longtime guitarist. I also thought Rise Against was never the same once Todd Mohney left. Sure, they rose in popularity but their best record, RPM, has never been topped as far as I'm concerned.

Anyway, it's been fun hearing everybody's thoughts on old/new Blink and revisiting their back catalog the last few days. It's making me rather nostalgic I guess.

Again, I apologize once more as I'll post less frequently while keeping things positive when I do post. Because I'm a musician with a great deal of writing/recording experience plus a relationship with someone who was instrumental in Feldmann's career, I just wanted to separate fact from fiction in some cases. But, if I don't deliver the message the right way, that insight doesn't mean much to anyone. My fault.

Don't feel like Mike J has said anything or acted in a way that warrants this. For some reason there's been a ton of divisiveness in this thread since Rabbit Hole came out, really think we all need to take a step back and turn our fans on, seems like the summer heat is getting to everyone.
