So far, I think it's fine. It doesn't punch me in the gut like TBB and FH did, but I'm willing to give it time as I've heard many slow burn albums in my time and I'd be foolish to dismiss it because it hasn't immediately clicked with me. These things take time.

This could be a grower, not a shower.

Based on the three songs I've heard so far I really doubt this.

I'm on my first listen right now. I like it. It's a new direction, for sure. Jason sounds pretty great. I typically tend to flock to music less heavy than Letlive, they were always a bit of an outlier for me, so the change isn't as jarring/off-putting to me as it is to others.

Of course, this is all just first listen, so my feelings are certainly going to expand.

  4. I mean, I don't think Keep You lives up to the amount people hype it so yeah, this is letlive.'s Keep You. A record that pretends to be an expansion of the artist's sounds that ends up being a dilution of everything they were actually good at.

To be clear I agree on the comparison but for completely different and more cynical reasons.

I'd say it's more their Young New England than their Keep You. I like that "dilution" word.

This is so god damn disappointing. TBB was top 2 or 3 for me in 2013 and I don't like a single thing on here. Can't remember the last time I felt more let down by a record.

It'll be interesting to see if this album ends up with a similar fate that Architects 'The here and now' had

This is different and bad, not that they have a correlation but in terms of whether it nails the new sound or not on a scale of "nailed" to "not nailed" it misses the nail by a country mile then smacks itself in the eye with the hammer

I'm surprised by the overwhelmingly negative reception, honestly. I know the feeling of being severely let down by a band you truly love, though, and it's like a gut punch. It sucks. So, in that regard, I feel for those who really dislike this.

On my second listen, I absolutely love "Foreign Cab Rides" and think "Elephant" and "Another Offensive Song" are the two weakest on the record.

i think elephant and reluctantly dead are the worst songs this band has written. also hate how the last two songs just whimper to the finish

Next Show - Foals April 22nd

I'm about halfway through the album and I'm enjoying it more than I expected. I've been putting it off based mostly on the comments I've been seeing here so I think the bar being set low might be helping.

Oh man. What happened? This thing is pretty bad.

It makes The Blackest Beautiful look like Fake History. And I hated BB.

While I love Keep You it was a good way of putting your gripes with the record. Definitely think the Young New England comparison from ECV above is more apt, though.

  17. See, I actually like YNE and I don't like Keep You but objectively, I understand what you're saying and would agree.

Hahaha it's great how we can both disagree on those two albums but come together in unison on our dislike of this album using either as a reference. Music taste is a weird thing ey, Boston never drinks alone

  19. Nice job working in that reference, haha. Yeah, I realize all of the problems YNE has but it does have a quirky charm, at least to me. I just love "Nothing Lasts Forever" so much that it makes me like the other songs.

YNE is probably my favorite Transit album, at least the songs on it are generally my favorite (aside from the title track). And I adore Keep You, as well as the Lack Long After, but I think both comparisons are really great. I'm not sold on this record though.

I love keep you (probably a top 10 all time album for me) and enjoyed YNE for the most part.

I also like Daisy more than TDAG so I'm probably just wrong... Lol

  22. Daisy is clearly their most experimental album, and everything worked. That's why it's my fav BN album (so you're not alone).

I hate making judgments on albums based off of the first listen...

But I'm just not feeling this. I took the album out while I was walking earlier tonight and nothing really connected. I still liked Another Offensive song and Good Mourning America but both of those were released prior. A Weak Ago is pretty good but there hasn't been anything that's truly grabbed me like their previous material.

I'm hoping my feelings will change with seeing them live this Tuesday. I fell in love with TBB because of the album release show so I tend to rely on them for live performances to really enhance the songs.

Did anyone go to the album release/art show tonight in LA?

I'm just giving the new album a spin now.

I've always loved the odd song and the live show but I've never been able to get fully into their recorded work.

The last album just had a few weird things going on with the vocal production for me.

I'm really diggin the new one so far though. Definitely a step more towards the poppier side of things but not in a bad way.

You know what? I just can't separate brand new albums from Deja onwards. They all offer me different things which is why I love that band so much. I probably listen to Daisy the most though.

I know we're getting off topic now.

Although very different to Listen and Forgive and Keep You. I really dug YNE too. It had a few duds but I honestly feel (and I was crucified for saying this back on AP) if you took some of those songs and got the gaslight anthem to cover them, they would be a welcome addition to their catalogue (even if it would still be rated as their least good).

The lyrics are atrocious but the connection for me, though it seems weird to most people, comes from a similarity in the Lo Fi guitar tones (eg Bright Lights lead guitar could be Alex playing for me)
