This reminds me! I'm gonna spend a couple of days on the Oregon coast next month. Where should I stay? I love the area down by Yachats, but have only done day trips.

I spent my honeymoon on the Oregon coast, both Newport and Lincoln City are great seaside cities. Newport has Rogue brewery and a good aquarium, and Lincoln City is just a super charming little ocean town.

 

I'm a coast novice because I live on the complete opposite side of the state but


I enjoy Lincoln city if only because I've never found one of those glass orbs they have hidden throughout the city and I want one!! Ecola state park is rly pretty too and has a beautiful hike. I stayed in manzanita once too which was a cute lil town and is near Oswald west state park which is v pretty. Astoria is where I have been thinking about ending up one day so I am also biased there! I think I've liked everywhere I've stayed on the coast except I'm not huge on Tillamook tbh tho maybe that's cause my travel buddies only ever wanna go to the cheese factory lol

 

oh my god I've been to Lincoln City twice and both times I scoured those damn beaches for hours trying to find one of those globes. it's like a literal treasure hunt

I know someone who legit goes on a trip every year to look for them and has never found one

 

Heh, Tillamook's only redeeming quality is the factory. And really only that because they have cheap taffy and that's my weakness.

I've spent a bunch of time between Seaside and Astoria, so looking further south on the coast this time.

I don't think I've ever been south on the coast yet! It's already like a 5 hour drive to the upper coast and I am not dedicated enough to drive like 7 hours to coos Bay lol. One day tho!

In rural Ohio I walked into a gas station just 90 minutes from home, nearly completing the 12 hours of driving yesterday. As I walked in at 3 am the guy working joked that he’s “closed!” and I joked that I’ll just use the bathroom. I heard him making weird small talk with my girlfriend who was just awake from a three hour car nap and when I came out of the bathroom he said “we are not closed but by entering here we’ve taken your soul.”

I laugh to placate him and then bought two red bulls because I was fucking tired.

At the register he says something I don’t comprehend and I laugh again. He then asks me if I understood the soul thing and I said that I’m picking up what he’s laying down.

“I mean you play D&D right?” He asked.

“What?”

“You look like you’d play D&D.”

“Never in my life have I done that.”

“Oh man!” He said. “I was gonna tell you about my character. You wanna hear it?”

“No I want to go home.”

Yeah, it's definitely a drive from Seattle, too. I actually settled on Lincoln City for this trip. I found a nice place to stay and I figure that'll give me a nice central location to explore from.
