I can’t even be mad at this season....they were pissed on by the injury gods again and it’d foolish to expect what happened last year to even be half replicated.

Lame but the way she goes, I guess.

Eh. In my opinion injuries expose who the good coaches and who the average to bad coaches are.

You’re relying on your talent completely if you need to be healthy to win. Well coached teams move straight forward with reserve players because all 53 players know the scheme and technique well enough to play in a game.

Difference between the Jags healthy and with a few key injuries is staggering. We fuckin suck at getting our backup players up to speed with team chemistry. That’s on the coaching.

    The rivalry is back on

Better strategy is to just hoard cap space and play rookies and backup caliber players because then you won’t notice a drop off when one of them misses a game

That means there are maybe a handful of good coaches in the league

sure in general, but when literally half your roster is hurt then I don't agree. No teams can withstand that.

The Eagles were riddled with injuries last year as well and won it all. The difference is that they had depth last year and don't this year, along with specific coaches leaving over this past offseason.

Now that the Eagles are done, let's go Chargers.

Eagles were riddled with injuries and filled them with young/unknown players. Eagles coached great games because they called a near record amount of unique plays, making them incredibly different to scout against.

I mean, yeah. Then a bunch of average ones and some bad ones. That sounds right to me.

Yeah that's not correct haha. This is the NFL. This is the TOP of the field. If your system results in only five coaches being good then you need to fix your system haha

Come on it’s more than 5

And yeah at the TOP LEVEL OF COMPETITION, most of these coaches are average. That’s what I said. They’d almost all be fantastic college coaches.

There’s obviously an upper echelon of coaches in the league that’s way better than all the others, not sure why this is disputed

    The rivalry is back on

Only 10 coaches have been with their current teams for more than 5 years

Some of those coaches are not good and are just along for the ride, and a few others have established themselves as legitimately good coaches in under 5 years with their team.

So yeah, that sounds about right

Yeah you're saying GOOD. Not great. So the TOP is just good while you can be top ten and somehow still be average? Naaaah.

Yeah. Maybe the top 7 or 8 are good and there’s about the same number of bad ones and the rest are average. It’s not that crazy of a distribution. That would leave 16-18 of 32 in the “middle of the pack”. There are always a handful of competitive teams who get there more so by roster talent than strategic prowess.

There’s only 12 playoff teams to begin with. So subtract the teams like that with elite players but non elite coaching, like last years Jags and this year’s Cowboys and you’d end up with around 8.

BB, Reid, Carroll, Payton, Tomlin, Zimmer, Harbaugh, McVay, Pederson, Shanahan, Rivera, Nagy, Lynn, Quinn

so you're saying half of those list isn't good. that's absurd. Good does not measure the same thing as average.

Jesus how bad is the CB class if he's the best option

I would put Harbaugh, Rivera, Lynn, and Pederson in “middle of the pack” and Quinn looks like he’s gonna regress to the mean as well. By NFL standards, all those guys are too flawed to be considered in the upper tier.

Jury is out on McVay and Nagy until they prove they can make this sustainable.

Now, all those dudes are better than Marrone. But I’m not gonna sit here and say 14 coaches in the league are GREAT. There aren’t 14 consistently great teams.

I'm not saying upper tier. I'm saying they are good coaches. Which they are haha.

Good, middle of the pack, and bad. I don’t have to divide it up any further than that. If you’re pretty good but you have glaring flaws then you’re a middle of the pack coach. “Good coaches” at the NFL level know how to adapt to different teams’ weaknesses and can change their whole game flow to attack that, they dont just have to play the game one way. That’s the difference, to me.

Ron Rivera can be both middle of the pack AND good.

I'm going to try and do this off memory but I just don't know how much I subscribe to this outside of the RB spot (and they were fine there until Ajayi got hurt)

    But...

QB: They've improved. Wentz is playing good football.
    RB: Okay. I agree.
WR: They lost Torrey Smith but added Mike Wallace, Jordan Matthews and Golden Tate.
TE: Lost Brent Celek + Trey Burton but added Dallas Goedert
OL: Didn't lose anyone but gained Jason Peters (which not sure how much of a gain that is really)

DL: Lost Vinny Curry, Beau Allen but added Haloti Ngata, Michael Bennett, and Josh Sweat.
LB: Lost Mychal Kendricks (Cut)----this is another spot I could see depth being an issue but it was and last year.
CB/S: Lost PatRob and replaced with Sidney Jones who, when healthy, has been good to very good.

I think coming into this year, this team was viewed as deeper than it was the year prior but injuries have derailed them badly plus the coaching hasn't been half as good as it was last year.

I'm going to root for the Saints to win it all. If they win it, Brees retires and gets them the ever-loving FUCK out of the picture going forward for a bit.

Robinson didn’t even get that huge of a contract. His low guarantees make him expendable if the Bears got in a pinch with cap space.
