  1. And then you finish what was said: "because he was killing people abroad."

I believe the end part matters.

It doesn't matter for people missing an eye that was offended by the joke.

He’s still making fun of someone for having an eye patch. That’s the only thing that matters. He’s not commenting on how the dude sucks as a person, he’s specifically talking about his disability for his punchline about being a “hitman in a porno.” He walked it back because “he was in a war”, but that takes nothing away from the fact that it was an ableist comment.

If the situation was someone saying something specifically racist or sexist or homophobic against someone who was also a bigot or a scumbag I really doubt you would be arguing that it is acceptable for the sake of the joke.

For a bunch of people that hate SJW's who rag on comedy, Republicans are so fucking quick to do the same shit when it is one of their own.

  7. I think it does matter, have you seen differently?

The people most offended online are the military bootlickers, because of the comment: ""I’m sorry, I know he lost his eye in war, or whatever. Whatever.”" Not the porno one.

I don't have to have a disability myself to know that it's a dick move to make fun of a disability. It's called empathy.
The point is that even though he's an asshole, it's still offensive to people who are missing an eye. I don't understand how you're not seeing that.

  10. You stop at the first part of the sentence. I think continuing through the entire statement that was said is important.

He doesn't just suck as a person. I have to keep saying this because that distinction matters. This is not just "an asshole."

You're changing the entire context to be something this isn't. These are not the same thing. Saying something racist is completely different than someone killing people in an unjust war and using that injury in it to try and go harm even more people.

I am really trying to stay out of the argument because I said I would drop it, and also because at the end of the day I agree with Jason in that people like Dan Crenshaw running for office and getting elected is dangerous and harmful to citizens of our country and honestly the rest of the world in real life *BUT* I am not sure I can stay out of it if you're trying to say that because of who he is it is okay to make fun of any disability he may have now like only having one eye or being in a wheelchair or whatever it may be. Is that honestly what you're saying here?

How would you know anything about whether anyone in here has any disabilities or not...????

Can I ask what a military bootlicker is?

"Hey this could be offensive so maybe don't say it"
"Yeah but it was said about a terrible person so who cares?"

Like, why is this being fought against? We are ALL in acknowledgement that this person is a terrible, shitty human. Do we really need to fight back against the idea of respecting people with disabilities? Like, this is really the fight we're picking today?

Oh my god. It’s not changing the situation. Is it fine to say something racist about a person who is causing harm to others, or is the racist statement harmful on its own no matter the context? Why does ableism get a pass?

Technically, yes, it is okay to say racist things as long as you're a Democrat trying to own Republicans. That shit gets repeated and endorsed time and time again. Specifically regarding immigrants and black Republicans.

I am really astounded that it seems like ableism is just totally fine here. That's why my earlier question was a legit question. I feel like I'm missing something here.

  17. He's not just an asshole.

Because I'm directly connecting who he is as a person, what he's done, and what he continues to do, to the comment. And to what the large amount of outrage about it has been online, a supposed attack on a military vet. And if it was a different circumstance I'd feel differently. You're speaking from a universal, and I understand that. I'm speaking specifically because of who this person is, what he did, and what he does.

He didn't say "fuck people who have lost an eye" he said "fuck this person who has lost an eye" and idk, making fun of terrible, terrible people is fine in my book

I don't see how this could be seen as a blanket statement against all people with a similar affliction

That doesn't make an offensive joke not offensive anymore though.

  21. Because of the context in how he was injured (murdering people abroad) and how he uses that injury as a prop to further harm people on a daily basis (making all parts of it a big part of his campaign as he tries to actively hurt people here).

I think the context matters here and plays directly into the level of how angry I'm going to get about it.

If the internet's outcry was about the porn hitman "joke" and not the military comment, and this guy wasn't a murdering pizzagate bigot, we have a different case and I'd look at it as such. But this isn't a hypothetical, we can look at the actual situation and not have to make it about something else.

the joke was the losing of the eye. the subject is a piece of shit. If you say something offensive to people they aren't just gonna be like "oh but you said it about THIS guy? That's cool then."

I'm all for making fun of (preferably worse) of people like him. I'm simply saying that the joke could be seen as ableist and we're all chill with that because of who this person is. That is not cool.

Jason - if Dan Crenshaw was black would it be okay to make racist jokes about him...? If he were gay would it be okay to make homophobic jokes about him...? It's coming off like you dislike him so strongly or feel he is so dangerous - or however you want to phrase how you feel about him - that literally anything said about him is fair game and fine and can't be seen as problematic and called out as such.

    Let it run Supporter

He didn't suddenly turn black/gay in a war.

I have no horse in this race but cmon.

  25. I think the added context in what was said, and who he is and what he does, does change that calculus. If the joke was about someone wearing an eyepatch and how everyone wearing an eyepatch looks like a "porn hitman" than it's different than who this actually is, what he's done, what he is doing, and how he's running for office on being navy seal.
