Yep haha we had a whole laugh about them a in this thread a few weeks back. I don't know if you heard it, but their first comeback album, Long Live, was decent, but that's because they went back to their metalcore sound. Their new album is like those radio rock ones but even blander.

Like I get Flynn is definitely not trying to be offensive, its just never a good way to go by using slura even if you don't mean to be offensive.

I enjoyed this album a lot many years after the release. The opening riffs in Gematria is one of my favorites

 

Yeah I fucked with AHIG a lot when it came out my senior year. Haven’t returned to it, and I never checked out their last album.

Yeah tracks 5-10 on AHIG all have cool things about them and moments of goodness but they weren't taken in exciting directions so they're just all there. The intro of Wherein Lies is pretty sick tho

 

Just one man's opinion. *shrug* Like I said, it wasn't bad. I just prefer their previous two releases.

 

On a side note, I didn't get into Slipknot until like 2015 or so which I think gives me a pretty unusual perspective on them, lol.

Reason I didn't get into them until that late, well, put simply, I didn't have a music taste until like 2011, so there's that.

 

my shitty high school band covered Duality, that's about as close as I ever got to them

 

I’m loving the new Black Tongue album that came out on Halloween. Seems like they’ve just about dropped the whole “downtempo deathcore” sound and they’re like doomy blackened death now, but still have super downtuned guitars. They even did a Celtic Frost cover (second to last song on the album).

 

holy shit, why am I just now getting to the Slaegt album? Fuckin' catchy as hell heavy/black metal.

it rocked really hard which was a surpirse after the whole love affair with synths of the last two records

Could be my synesthesia talking but could I ask for recommendations for bands that uses a specific guitar tuning or mostly writes in certain keys?

They always kinda rock-ify their songs live, like the PHOBOS songs have an edge live that is definitely lacking from the studio version. And coffins is pretty rock. That said, I hope it's HEAVY

 

I heard slipknots big singles growing up when they came out but didn’t properly get into their first few albums until pretty recently as well

C# minor and A# minor. I also have a soft spot for bands who mix major and minor riffs. I'm not familiar with musical theory so I can't exactly describe what I'm looking for with more details ha

Dude so much agreed. Like I still think it sounds very deathcore but I think they've transcended and joined bands like The Acacia Strain and Fit For An Autopsy as a deathcore band that isn't cringy as fuck.

And that Celtic Frost cover is amazing. Black Tongue with clean vocals works way better than I ever would've imagined.
