not good..maybe he needs to warm up to the range of thrice songs over be course of a 20 song set

Yeah, it seems to be a stamina thing. He looks like he's lost some weight too. Happy for him. He seems to be in a good place after all the Driscroll drama and the re-relocation of his family.

Not hearing anything in the videos that suggests he is struggling....

He's slightly more out of tune than normal and I see think that straining at the end of the sets is the right word. also he completely changed the melody to the sky is falling, made it lower.

Yes...but a thing isn't beautiful because it lasts

What's intriguing about this conversation right now is it parallels with a single personal complaint of TBEITBN. I can't sing along with it. Can't tell if it's the key, or Dustin's inflection, or what. AITA-M/M, absolutely no problem, but this album gives me fits in the car trying to match up with his vocals. Kinda makes you wonder if he might have a similar problem bouncing back and forth between 15-year spanning songs with a full band, because his solo performances are always spot on. I dunno. 12:30am thoughts.

The songs on the new record Dont have any notes had he hasn't hit before but they are higher more often if that makes sense

Let me add that I compared performances of the same songs in 2015. And he's just slightly off. I truly think it's just stamina at this point. But yes, like The Mysterious said, he's definitely challenging himself with this new batch of songs. That being said, "In Years To Come" has never sounded better.

Why would his stamina suddenly nose dive from last year? I mean he toured a lot last year between his solo tours and the scattered Thrice shows... I just don't really get what would suddenly change that?

That's what I can't figure out. Thrice is certainly the hardest to sing since their songs go all over the place depending on the record but he's never had a huge gap in activity. Again, it's not significant, but it's enough for someone like me to notice.

Sustaining notes seems to be an issue from the youtube vids as well, for instance Death From Above, the word sky where it is very long in the record he seems to run out of gas and sing it short. Thats just one example but I feel I heard something similar several times :(

Very much agree. I saw Dustin play is acoustically at the farewell show, but I want to hear it full-band SO bad.

agreed, im just bummed that it bumped out Daedalus. Now if Whistleblower would bump out treading paper, all would be right.

I've been super into Daedalus lately. Definitely one of the most powerful songs they have. The entire "Oh gods, why is this happening to me?" part is chill inducing.

I love the performance that was captured on Live at the House of Blues. At the end he looks like he's emotionally and physically drained....but still has to crank out 6 more crazy songs including the earth will shake, hold fast hope and deadbolt.

I really wish they'd start playing The Whaler again. I love that song so much.

I've listened to this album almost twice daily since it came out. Really growing more fond of it with each listen. I even like Wake Up.

I just recently found my copy of that DVD. I forgot how fantastic that setlist was. I'm probably going to watch it tonight.

If Hurricane wasn't such a perfect opener, I think Whistleblower would have been a great song to open this record.

I remember it came out close to Christmas time and I bought a ton of copies and gave them to everyone, even non fans. It was my good deed for my lifetime. I watch it on the reg, it's so great. Wish Anthology had video to go along with that amazing setlist as well.

Hate it when that happens. Also, I wish there was a DVD for Anthology. I listened to it yesterday, and it's easily one of my favorite live albums.

I'm sorry but I just can't ignore the "Of Dust and Nations" vibe in its intro. I love the song but the intro just sounds derivative of their own work. That's why I could never get behind it as an opener.

I feel like they could've done something more unique in the intro with Dustin's vocals and those tribal drums that end the song. Then it explodes into something heavy, but without vocals a la Hold Fast Hope, before going back to the verse we have now.
