Mayfield is honestly probably better than Bortles by the end of this year, good on the Browns for not trading that pick. I’m gonna say I was wrong about him. Baker Mayfield rules.

I’ve been watching the film and he’s actually really smart, accurate, good at avoiding the rush — will actually cycle reads and check the other side of the field if his main play isn’t there, which I didn’t expect since Oklahoma is a half field offense. His game log doesn’t show how well he’s adapted to the pro game so far, better numbers are coming.

You forget i'm operating under the assumption that even Danny Etling would be better than Bortles.

 

Dude I just don’t want a QB who is heavily under construction. We have bad offensive coaching and bad receivers and this is before the injuries to our RBs.

Jackson looks really impressive but he also looks extremely inaccurate and like he needs some help with his throwing motion and footwork before you can actually call a full passing script. We just went through all that and built a team around a QB who struggles with those things. That’s not the kind of QB I’m trying to get again.

Yes I would rather trade up for a QB who reads zone and knows how to get rid of the ball in a pinch, and who throws our sorry receivers open. It costs more but that’s what we need unless we find a way to do much better than Hackett at OC and these receivers.

 

When it comes down to it baker is just a baller and I hope he still has the RV from training camp

Yes. And I didn’t agree back then because I wanted Fournette. But yes.

Watson has some of the same flaws as Jackson but the accuracy is my biggest bug with Jackson. Watson is pretty accurate.

Mahomes wouldnt be NEARLY as good with us as with KC, but he still would have instantly improved on Bortles. I just wonder if his flaws would be more apparent without a year sitting under Reid.

 

Darnold is still under construction too.

You say you don't want to do that again but also that Darnold is close to Bortles.

Kamara has definitely benefited by playing in New Orleans. I know he’s awesome but he wouldn’t stand out as much if he went to a boring team.

Darnold is close to Bortles NOW after 5 years of coaching. That was my point. We’d have to redo some painful stuff with Jackson’s mechanics - if we had Shanahan I’d trust him to get Jackson throwing clean. But we have a coach that I don’t trust to hold his QB accountable (see: Hackett “I love Bortles and think he’s doing amazing” all throughout his shitty 2016)

With Darnold we wouldn’t have skipped a beat and would have replaced Bortles ceiling with Darnolds floor
