Peyton's had like 5 good defensive players in his time in Indianapolis though

Coming back from 28-3 ends every argument ever about clutch before actually digging into how Superman-ish TB12 really is.

If you made a fictional movie based off Brady's career it wouldn't feel realistic enough to be a good movie

Remember how we were talking about how having an existing pass rush is important no matter how you build your team?

Dwight Freeney. THAT dude was god mode. And sometimes he was the only reason the Colts ever stopped an opposing offensive drive.

I also think it’s silly when people say Brees is overrated. Oh, how many 40 TD seasons has your QB had? For most who criticize him the answer is zero cause fans of actual good QBs know how hard that is to do.

Manning is up there with the greatest of all time in my mind and can be argued as the best ever. I don't hold the rule changes against him because some of the other candidates (Brady, Brees, Rodgers) had most, if not all, of their careers after those rule changes as well.

Top ten contains those four guys, as well as Montana, Marino, Staubach, and with respect for ancient history, someone like Otto Graham.

It's impossible to fairly compare these players since they span decades and incredibly different eras.

    The rivalry is back on

Any take that doesn’t have Peyton Manning as a top 2 QB of all time is really bad, even by this thread’s standards

I disagree with that. There are a lot of different ways to say who's the best ever and you could argue five different dudes and they're all legit arguments.

I think it’s absurd when people talk about the GOAT as a race between Brady and Rodgers only. It’s nonsensical to leave Brees out, and I think Peyton’s injury/demise has penalized him too much, seems like people already forgot him. Rodgers, IMO, is the most overrated of the bunch, not because he’s not that caliber, but bc the narrative for years has been “as long as Rodgers is there, the packers are contenders!” And that’s demonstrably not true. People have managed to overestimate the impact a qb can have on a team and he’s the only qb who’s candidacy doesn’t seem to be affected by Super Bowls. Idk, I find watching packers games insufferable because of the incessant praise.

I mean, he's not wrong, in the sense that they mostly won because of their defense...and in spite of Osweiler, who was so bad that his team gave another team a 2nd and 6th rounder to get rid of his contract.

Re: @whitenblue88 Eh. Montana was as good for his era as Manning was for his. Before that you had Roger Staubach outplaying everybody, and before that it was Johnny Unitas, and before that it was Otto Graham. All those dudes dominated their generation of QBs, and set trends that the next generations of QB would start to follow.

It's fair not to consider Manning a top 2 guy all-time, if you're adjusting for the way the game was played in each era.

However, he's right behind Brady throughout the 2000s. Brees is close, but he throws too many interceptions in the process of all his productivity for me to consider him on Manning / Brady level.

While Rodgers may be "better" by metrics such as QB rating and the fact he adds athleticism & evasiveness in the pocket to his game, he's actually not "better" because Manning carried a worse Colts team to more regular season wins and similar postseason success. Rodgers is more "impressive" but Manning was smarter, ostensibly a more thorough gameplanner, and better at adjusting audibles & sliding protection for each pre-snap situation.

    Come on. Jamarcus Russell.

He got more time than Tim Tebow (3 years he started for Oakland! THREE YEARS!) to play about as poorly as him except without ANY of the last minute wins.

Also, unlike Brady who mostly spent his career throwing to nobodies (and set every damn record and nearly went 19-0 with an elite WR)...Rodgers and Manning both have had plenty of options to throw to.

That said, Im not sure we'll look back on the Packers as really having dominant defenses overall for Rodgers. Early on, sure...but lately?

Also, those of you saying you can't judge Montana cause he played for the 9ers?

Counterpoint: Bill Walsh and Ed DeBartolo just had the best eye for talent of any GM & coach of all time. And QBs were no exception. They knocked both Montana and Young out of the park & the 49ers do NOT win 5 SuperBowls without getting those quarterbacks right.

Sure they had undeniably ridiculous talent around them, but don't take for granted how much pressure it is to run a west coast offense, especially back then when it was a totally foreign and complicated style of football.

Yeah, in his 3rd year, he had 3 games where he didnt break 70 yards. Only 2 of the 9 games he started that year he broke 200yds....while completing 48% of passes overall. Thats all-time bad.

However, had the decision to play Peterman for one game cost the Bills a playoff berth, then I think he'd be a rightful candidate.
