I watched Resurrection the other day, so this has to be a masterpiece by comparison

Watching the original on my laptop at work right now getting ready for tonight. First time I've taken off on a Thursday to actually watch a new release in years.

I’m watching the original on Shudder right now

  5. I've seen 1-6, so I'll have those to compare with after I see this tonight. Gonna try to get to the other sequels at some point too.

Yup. Apologies to @Zilla . Resurrection is literally the only Halloween worse than this. It’s not bad but it’s just totally mediocre. Green and McBride were not the men for the job. Get an actual horror director / writer next time, please.

Sitting here now. Even if I like it as much as h2o it’s my favorite Halloween in 20 years lol. Keeping the faith.

not really anything to do with this movie, but Trent Reznor’s remix of the theme for the original is soooo good

Bummed. I think I might have been interested in seeing someone like David Robert Mitchell craft a sequel with a tone and atmosphere in the vein of It Follows.

Kinda surprised so many people are saying this is bad. The RT score is literally 50% higher than the vast majority of the sequels. 4, 5, 6, Resurrection and RZH2 are unquestionably terrible movies that fans make excuses for because of their love of The Shape. It’s hard for me to imagine this being worse than that bullshit curse of Thorn nonsense.

I dont really give a shit about 4-6 and defend RZH2 because it’s a good movie

Yeah. I...don’t want to be as disappointed as I am. It wasn’t terrible or anything, but when it was over I sat there thinking “that was fine I guess” and then as soon as that thought left my brain I felt real sad lol.

I think the RT score is because of Jamie Lee and that’s about it.

Think I agree. If you read the positive reviews, most of them are filled with some pretty sharp criticisms and they mostly all point to Jamie Lee Curtis as one of the few bright spots. That said, many of them also agree there just isn’t nearly enough of her which...sigh. Yeah I agree with that too.

Mad scientist doctor shouldn’t have been in the movie. Totally ridiculous character. They left him out of the trailers for the same reason The Last Jedi left out Canto Bight haha.

Haven’t seen the film, but I can’t think of a bad Jamie Lee performance. She is extremely underrated.

I think it’s also grading on a curve. It’s had so many goofy sequels, that I think some people are just happy it’s returned to a sense of reality. And no one will likely be too mad about a new Halloween as long as it competently runs through the motions.

To me, it was a complete missed opportunity . It was cool to see kids wearing the Season of the Witch masks.

YES. That part put a grin on my face. Upon reflection, it makes me even sadder knowing that was one of the few times.

I liked it, didn’t love it. It definitely had its faults, and had the potential to be so much more. Really liked the Strodes, the high school guys were lame as fuck and a waste of time. And I guess in keeping spirit with all the other MM sequels, it adds a fucking stupid “twist” that really hurts the story imo.
Though I’m not getting the H20 love over this. This Halloween is wayyyyyy better than 4,5,6, H20, Resurrection, and Zombies H2.

I’d put it as my third, maybe fourth favorite.
