Also, "typical" =/= good. Something can be both typical and good, but I would never go out to see the mew Mission Impossible and say I hope it's a typical action movie as that would regularly have a negative connotation

 

Really wish Hulu/Netflix/Amazon had all of the movies to stream. Really wanted to watch H4 after work today, but looks like you can't stream it anywhere.

Do you have cable TV? Verizon, Xfinity, etc.? If so, you can log into AMC.com and watch all of them on there.

You might be able to watch them for free with ads as well.

I've got a Roku, but the AMC app constantly fails. Will work just fine the first few minutes, then reboots.
I also hate Roku at this point, haha

Ah, bummer! I've been watching them in order, just finished H4. I've never marathon'd them before, so it's be fun.

 

If you consider yourself a horror fan, definitely check out Shudder. Think there's a free week trial for new members and it's definitely the best curated streaming selection of horror/cult stuff

No I haven't seen the movie, but calling me needlessly upset? Who's upset?

I've seen nothing but praise by the critics I pay attention to, and for the most part, the general consensus from those who have seen it that aren't critics say that this movie does well what every other sequel hasn't. So I see one opinion that is super brash, and totally opposite of everything I've seen so far for weeks and I question it because the initial description was a "typical slasher" film. I'm asking for more than that cause the opinion seemed to be coming from somebody who, to my knowledge, hasn't really discussed this movie with this thread nor seems to be a fan of the series/genre to begin with.

And no, I definitely do not expect this to top the original. But I expect to see Carpenter's work shine through and to get the tone and feel that I get from the original film. I expect to be unsettled by what Michael does, and hope for an ending to a Halloween film that isn't over the top or a corny cliffhanger. Things like Michael killing side characters that don't have enough backstory or "twists" to the plot aren't going to make this movie "bad" for me unless the twist is something like Friday The 13th part 5 in which then yes, fuck this movie.

I mean, that did seem pretty unnecessarily combative tbh, just think that conversation would be a lot more constructive once both parties have actually seen the film

Also, remember when critics went crazy over "Blair Witch (2016)" and that turned out to be not great? I'm not even saying that this is like this, but just because there's a solid critical consensus (from mostly a festival crowd) doesn't mean as much as I think you think it does.

 

But it wasn't combative? Somewhat sarcastic yes, but i'm not trying to be mean I was just listing random examples of things that happen in other horror movies that are atypical of the slasher genre.

 

Every time somebody calls me bud on here my eye twitches and I wonder how anyone thinks i'm the antagonistic one.

 

I'm not the one putting up the "TRUE FANS ONLY" sign in the window of this thread. If you can't see that your assumptions and demeanor are even a little bit antagonistic, then you're fooling yourself.

Regardless, I don't want to muddy up this thread any more. I hope others enjoy the movie and we can have a good conversation when it's released, whether someone deems the posters true fans of the series or not.

 

No I just think it’s how you choose to read my posts and your issue with having your opinion, that came off shallow to me, questioned. Revisit them, I don’t insult you or speak down to you.
