Well, when you say "stand out" it's as if you're saying they are very complicated/clever riffs where really, they're just extremely simple and iconic where if you show those riffs to someone, they're most likely gonna know the songs.

Listening to it on Spotify. Travis's drums on the bridge are really really cool. and There's like a high guitar part on the chorus right after the bridge that is nice as well

Tom has created wayyyyy more memorable riffs/intros than Matt. Which isn't a bad thing or means that Tom is the better musician. They have different strengths and weaknesses. But there have been so many Tom songs that I've learned to play over the years and growing up i remember thinking "only tom could come up with this", whereas with alk3, I thought a lot of it could've been created by many others. Not dogging alk3, but yeah, that's always been my thought

I might need to go make a Trio playlist to end this silly debate!

Natives is so hard for me to listen to now just cause blink has proper production again. Think how good that song would've sounded with Feldmann and Avron. I love the song itself.

Avron mixed this new album, yes?

The compression on the drums irk me so so so much.

    Things have changed.

I remember reading something Matt said about learning the songs and having to really change his playing style because Tom's playing was so strange.

  10. Wanting to play guitar and be Blink-182 is not the same as a band being known for cool riffs. They're not even that good guitar parts. No one goes "Blink-182: great guitar band, awesome riffs." They say Blink-182: Fun pop-punk band with a really talented drummer.

Also just noticed it's pretty wild how Bored to Death has only been out for a month and has already surpassed every Neighborhoods songs' play count on Spotify. I gotta check youtube play counts but it's gotta be close.

    Give what you can.

Hahhaha, I'd consider that song, Dammit, and like... Brain Stew the holy trinity of 14 year olds learning instruments.

  13. Only way I can believe this to be true is if you haven't actually listened to Alkaline Trio.

I've always thought (even before he joined) that Matt and Tom were pretty much on the same level songwriting/creativity wise.

I might hyperventilate if another person tries to say Trio's riffs aren't better than blink's -- and I like both!

If a massive amount of individuals wanted to play guitar or learned how to play guitar because of blink-182 songs..I'd say that means they're influential riffs that lead to thousands playing at home..or starting bands, like Panic! At The Disco and many, many others.

I think wanting to learn to play a band's guitar riffs automatically means people think they're awesome, no?

  18. The massive underappreciatedness of Alkaline Trio continues.

The live lounge performance is pretty rad.

I think if Jason or others don't think the riffs to Dumpweed or STFTK is awesome, that's obviously fair, but I can't think of too many other bands in this overarching genre that have inspired the mass amount of covers, cover bands, and bands inspired by being a blink-182 cover band.

But I am bias - I only stuck with guitar once picking one up because of blink-182 riffs.

Not only do I still like that style, their new albums are just ducking good. Strung Out, Lagwagon and Millencolin's last albums were actually my favorites from them. Surprised me that I could listen to these bands for 15+ years and now they're putting out career-high albums.

Catchy summer song...I like the part when Mark sings with you, with you, with you again and Travis drumming to it.

C'mon now. I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone is considering blink a great guitar band. They just added some riffs over powerchords that added an extra element to the catchiness of their songs. Tom was good at that. A lot of bands are good at that. There are plenty of bands like Green Day and MxPx that don't really bother with it, but blink was always good at adding that extra layer of guitar riffs. I don't even feel like taking a strong stance on this, but I've gotta disagree if you're saying that people don't recognize their riffs, particularly people that love guitar/pop punk.
