The lyrics in the closing track... oof.

I used to fall for hope
    The promise of our youth
I used to fall for change
    'Til our youth became recruits

the whole 2nd half of that song is a pretty good summarization of how beaten down we are right now.

I think this is going to end up one of my absolute favorite releases of 2018. When I read they'd recorded considerably more than ten tracks, I was initially disappointed the album was only that long. However, upon repeated listens I think it's the perfect length. That doesn't mean I'd complain about hearing some of them down the road, however.

Poor baby, you're starting to lose it.

"Pick Up The Pieces" is probably the track that harkens back the most to the "Cursive sound" of yore. A great track 2 after "Free To Be..." sets the tone that this is going to be a frustrated, disparate album.

Yeah the length is solid. They mentioned how they wrote 20 songs and were gonna release a "moody" album and a "hard rock" one. That would have been interesting, but these ten work so well together.

That little guitar riff in Everending is so tasty.

I also fucking love this one and the record. I hear some radiohead influence on It's gonna hurt and I love it

Will have more to say later. Still unpacking it but as you can see by the avi I'm digging this a lot. Their best since The Ugly Organ imo.

This album is pretty incredible. My absolute favorite is probably that finale, but other then that I feel like there isn’t enough said about Pick Up The Pieces, Remorse, and Ghost Writer. Love the time changes in Pick Up, those crazy sounds towards the end of Remorse, and generally how addicting Ghost Writer is. Ouroboros of course is another stand out, especially the ending. Cursive really outdid themselves on all these bridges/instrumentals.

this is like easily their second or third best album wow

love the keys and cello but love even more it's not a rehash of when they last had a cello

Pick Up the Pieces is one of the tracks that has grown on me the most with repeated listens.
It sounds familiar, while also coming across as very fresh. More of a cousin than a sibling.

Remorse is stunning. The piano melody reminds me a lot of The Dear Hunter.

I can't stop listening to this. It needs more love. Their best album since Ugly Organ without a doubt, and that's coming from a big Happy Hollow fan. Great to have Cursive back and back to this sort of form.

okay mama im swollen rules and i am gemini is not far behind at all, so i expected this to be good but i wasn't expecting such a strong album this late in their career

my one criticism is that i maybe prefer tim when he isn't as direct bc some of the barbs don't necessarily land as deeply but that's a minor thing

Just now getting a chance to listen to this and I absolutely love the aggression on this album. After two listens, it’s definitely my favorite since Happy Hollow.

Album is still so damn good! After a week of listening I decided to go back through their catalog and I have to say, “Mama, I’m Swollen” is one of their best songs ever (Besides Staying Alive) and also as far as pre Ugly Organ I really enjoy Escape Artist, Mothership and Nostalgia to name a few.

“It’s Gonna Hurt” is one of the best Cursive tracks I’ve ever heard. Just an incredible song from start to finish.
