I hope this doesn’t sound too selfish, but part of the reason I don’t want to listen to the band rn is because I was already let down by them once. If something else does come out, I don’t want to go through the same thing again.

I believe this may be due to the fact that, while well intentioned, with no new info we're sort of talking in circles

    I think thats fair.

On that note, if there are other victims that come out I think just about everyone here would be done with this band 100%.

it’s further complicated because there’s someone in the pitchfork article that was said to be a victim by Sheridan, but they themselves never called themselves a victim and Sheridan went against her wishes. So I’m hesitant to believe everything being thrown out there because it’s alreay muddled everything up once before. People telling stories that aren’t there’s to tell isn’t helpful

I feel so sorry for her. If I'm not mistaken, that's the same woman that went through the FPS ordeal.

I don't think this is selfish at all. If the situation really has been resolved between Evan and the survivor, as the article implies, I'd personally advise a "forgive but not forget" mentality. And this stance is right in line with that. It's part of the reason I personally don't feel comfortable listening to the new album, or any of the old stuff either.

You also have to remember that not all fans of the band necessarily even know what’s going on. If you aren’t an active member of a music forum like this and don’t avidly follow social media it’s pretty easy to miss things. I have a friend that was asking me when Skylight was coming out a few months ago and had no idea about this situation at all. As another example I’ve been listening to Turnover for a few years and even seen them live but had no idea there was ever any controversy with them until recently.

Yeah exactly. I had a very strong emotional bond with the band before all this happened. I’m an emotional person, and I tend to bond with my favorite artists quite strongly. This made BN very tough for me as well. So I’m very cautious about getting involved again, especially when I’ve started making new bonds with other artists and don’t “need” Pinegrove back, I guess. Hopefully that all makes sense.

I’d wager it’s half people who don’t know and half people who don’t care. Hopefully the people who don’t know can be educated and not turn into people who don’t care

First listen was odd. I felt very distracted, though I can say I enjoyed it. There definitely felt like something was missing. I was bored for a good chunk of the middle.

Rings and the title track are admittedly excellent. That's all I can say about it for now.

I'm glad we're all having a solid discussion now. Apologies for some of my strongly worded posts earlier, I know we're all on the same page. I just keep going back and forth, this is such a weird situation. If the people on Twitter truly do know more and do know that the survivor is unhappy with the band moving forward or w/e, it sucks that that article was written and misconstrued the situation. Judging by how the entire situation was handled, if that is the case idk if we'll hear anything else outside of the rumblings on Twitter.

If the people on Twitter only know half of the truth or are doing it to advance social capital or enjoy playing cancel police or whatever, that's incredibly shitty. They're going against the survivor's wishes for this to all go away and are doing way more harm than good.

I have a feeling we're going to be in limbo about this and we're all going to need to come to terms with it at our own pace. It sucks.

I’m wondering what happens if nothing else happens, six months to a year down the line say they do a new album or tour. People are definitely going to say don’t support abusers and call out people who do. Which they have every right to. But will we then have to relitigate this once again? We can all come to terms with this at our own pace but will it ever actually go away? That’s another reason why I haven’t listened. A stigma is permanently attached to this band now, do I want to drag that around with me if I end up liking the album? Is it worth going through this situation any more than I have to? Because it is exhausting and no ones having fun with this right now

I really think this could be the case of the survivor approving of the abuser's plans (Pinegrove releasing Skylight and touring) but their friends not being okay with it. I get that.

I also feel extremely bad because I know this is gonna happen and it’s gonna be a bunch of “the victim wants this, the victim doesn’t want this” from everyone while the victim continues to lack a voice of their own. I think it’s about time I wrap up my involvement in the discussion and proceed with my own thoughts in private. There’s nothing more for me to contribute without feeling like I’m harming people inadvertently

One thing that keeps crossing my mind, that could be intentional if They're playing 4D chess, if this is really going against the survivors wishes anyway they could have tried to make money off of this. But they aren't. Again maybe that's an intentional attempt to make this all look real.

Yeah I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that Josh Coll and all the other people close to the survivor aren't lying or trying to look smart and that it's the Pitchfork article with a press release in it written by a Pinegrove fan that's twisting the survivor's recycled words from months ago that's wrong here

I don't even know why people think there's a debate to be had here.

that would be some pretty awful "twisting of words".. so you think the part mentioning them working with a mediator to meet the survivors wishes is falsified in the article?

Just because she approved the plan doesn’t mean she’s happy about it. Very likely no one is happy with this outcome and it sucks for everyone

I get that everyone wants this to finally be the successful rehabilitation story we've been waiting for. But the truth is this is full of red flags and just barefaced signs from evan's speech that tell us he hasn't learned his lesson. The only thing truly lending credibility to the article is the pretence that the survivor is okay with the return which, from the survivor's entourage, is not the case. Like, what more do we need? I get that the piece is well written and that you all love its writer but at some point it's time to take the survivor's side. Sometimes... hold on for this... sometimes journalists LIE... or MISREPRESENT...
