Absolutely! Glad I'm not the only one that thought that. Sounds just like an O'bro moment. Really cool thing is I got into O'bro because of Thrice and I felt like I could hear some Thrice influence on their music and now we can hear how they influence Thrice haha. Also Outro to Long Defeat sounds very O'bro to me before it softens up

I have a player, but it's always so much easier just to play anything through itunes so I don't have to flip it after a couple songs while I'm in the middle of something.

I have beggars signed as well and that, M/M, Illusion and Vheissu all look awesome framed above my bar. Anthology and Alchemy index all look awesome on my coffee table too. There are some I listen to, but mostly I just like to collect.

"Stay With Me" might be the best song on the record. It's so well-written from start to finish. Every part feels more organic than the last. The complaints I hear about it often relate to what Thrice should or shouldn't sound like since "Stay With Me" is their first real ballad.

But if people ignore their preconceived notions and just focus on the song in and of itself, I think the song would grow on those who don't like it currently.

It's just nice to hear a vulnerable side of Dustin in the context of Thrice.

I went down the rabbit hole that is Riley's Twitter feed and his bandmate in Less Art, that guy Ian from KWC, tweeted that his favorite song is "Stay With Me." So, even fans/creators of heavy music are capable of liking a song like "Stay With Me" and that's why I don't understand those fans who criticize it for not being Thrice.

I'm not saying you're one of these people but it's hard for me to understand why someone wouldn't like "Stay With Me." I totally understand the lack of love for "Wake Up" but "Stay With Me" is just so moving.

I agree. What got me into Thrice is that they CAN do everything. A mix cd by them sounds like a bunch of different bands. Deadbolt going into Moving Mountains, then into Between the End and Where we Lie, then into Yellowbelly ect, you get the point :-)

Stay with me is a great song, the only one I cannot get into is Stay with Me and the closing track. The rest of the album improve with every listen.

In no particular order, I've finally settled on my favorite songs from this record.

The Window, Black Honey, Stay With Me, The Long Defeat.

I'm the only one I know who doesn't worship Hurricane. I like it, but it doesn't move me the way these other songs do. And the same goes for Salt and Shadow. I like it, but it doesn't move me the way I had hoped it would. I thought I was getting another For Miles or The Whaler when I heard early descriptions of the chills it creates.

I just don't find myself rushing to replay it like I did Silver Wings, The Whaler or Open Water. It's very nice in sequence but I don't get the resolution that I got from their other closers like Red Sky, Beltsville Crucible, Beggars etc.

Hurricane, Seneca, Death from Above, Whistleblower and Salt and Shadow are songs I really like, but aren't my go-to songs that I can play over and over again. Each has parts I adore, be it the bridge/outro in DFA, all of Seneca, the Hurricane chorus, the inverted arpeggio in S&S/Dustin's falsetto and the hook in Whistleblower.

The only songs I skip immediately are Blood on the Sand and Wake Up. I like parts of both songs as they're good songs by any other band's standards. But, with Thrice, their music has an element to it that I will always connect with no matter how long I've been listening to them (17 years). But these two songs just don't have that magical feeling I can recapture over and over again. They fit well within the context of the record's sequencing but that's about it.

Not sure why I just wrote all this.

Not sure how you exclude circles, atlantic and a few songs on Alchemy from begin a ballad. I could see it being your favorite song on the record, and most emotional, but compositionally it is by no means close to the best song on the record. Great song still.

Hey and aren't you that guy that doesn't dig moths to the flame!? jk haha

I meant more of a rock power ballad. Even the band has acknowledged in interviews that "Stay With Me" is a unique type of ballad for them.

    God, I love Circles.

Yes, I'm the guy who thinks Moths is a weak song, top to bottom, since a great bridge/verse doesn't make up for a lackluster main riff and chorus. And don't exclude the context of that opinion: I was saying how Glory and Dawn should've been in its place as they're both better songs from top to bottom.

Even on their DVD, one of the main lessons they learned going into the Vheissu sessions was that they wanted to write more memorable songs, not just memorable parts. Moths has memorable parts, but it doesn't come together as a whole.

They regret omitting one of those two b-sides but I always forget which one. However, I think Moths would've been the song they'd cut in its favor if they had to swap one for the other.

Stay with me as their first real ballad? What about A Song for Milly? I've still yet to like Stay with me and Milly is leaps and bounds better.

Mannnnn, obviously we won't see eye to eye on Moths but lyrically the music is absolutely perfect and fits the story of Judas sooooo well! So haunting, cryptic slightly melancholic in the verse/chorus/bridge, and ending with his world absolutely being destroyed the fulfilled prophecy in the end...... I'm getting excited just typing this. It's a Thrice classic.

I'm loving every track on this. But then again, I'm a diehard Thrice fan and I think there's only maybe 4-5 songs of their's that I don't love, but still think are "good songs"

I think from a total package standpoint, 'Salt & Shadow' is the best song on the album.
