Can the money really be that good? Or can he not find work in a field close to MMA training that is substantial enough?

I’ve said this before I’m sure, but I’m so confused what happened to BJ. There are a bunch of fighters who look worse with age but it’s usually just that their chin is gone or their speed and reaction time is not what it used to be...natural things. BJ, on the other hand, looks like he had his mind erased and completely forgot how to fight. Or like they secretly swapped him out with his distant cousin that works a desk job.

    Motel. Money. Murder. Madness.

BJ’s family is pretty wealthy, regardless of his MMA career, so it’s not the money.

He just loves to fight, and can’t accept that it has passed him by.

It’s sad. It hurts your heart to watch. Here’s praying he gets that last win...

Watching him fight Yair was brutal.

But see, that's the trap of being an aging fighter. They want to go out on an elusive "last win", so they keep fighting despite going on a terrible losing streak. Then if they somehow get that win they've been looking for, they think "Wow, I guess I really can still hang with these guys. I might as well keep fighting."

speaking of: if Chuck beats Tito this last time, I hope he calls it a career and doesn’t try to get back in there with someone who’s gonna destroy him again

that chin just ain’t what it used to be

I have no idea why he even wanted that fight. How much pride can he feel getting a win over a guy he's beaten twice already? (His case really could be that he wants that money, though)

Either way, he looked bad a decade ago while Tito has actually picked up some decent wins over the last few years. So I don't see it going how he thinks it will...

BJ should go to One and get some of those (semi-serious) old man fights.

    Chuck needs the money.

I think Tito takes this one, and that really hurts to say because I know how proud Chuck is of those two fights.

Chuck was such a beast back in the day. It really sucks how his career went at the very end, but at least he got that win over Wand.

Even during the Rich Franklin fight, he looked pretty amazing offensively (even lost his gut). Broke Rich's arm with a kick and then got knocked out cold by a tiny little hook because his chin was completely gone. Such a shame.

Yeah I’d at least him go on the circus ONE and Bellator cards then get whooped in the UFC

For lack of a better term, I feel One (Bellator to a lesser extent) would "respect" his talent level and match him accordingly. I didn't like Renzo fighting, but at least they gave him an opponent in his mid-40's. UFC can't offer that and Bellator is starting to trend that way too. I really like the product One puts out, but they pull these old dudes out of thin air sometimes haha.

Yeah I feel like that's the main issue. I get that the guy is a legend but he's had enough opportunities to fight the active guys at the top like Nick, Frankie, Rory, Yair, etc. He has no business fighting the elites, but it's also weird to put him against young guys that hardly have name recognition but could still probably beat him.

I think Siver is the only match up they've gotten right with him in the last seven(!) years.

Beating a 2018 BJ Penn isn’t a big deal to a 26 year old fighter.

That’s the last place you want your legacy to be.

I'm going to be honest, if I'm going to watch BJ Penn fight in the UFC at this age, I want him to rematch Diego. Both guys are at the point where they should retire, but it's still a respectable big-name opponent (on both ends). That's one of the only matches where I wouldn't immediately roll my eyes after it's announced.

  19. I’ll never forget that high kick BJ landed on Sanchez that just immediately opened up a nasty cut

It was a classic. This sounds weird, but I honestly think Diego would have done slightly better in that fight had he not gotten dropped by the first punch. haha. I mean, he was clearly outmatched technically (which is the whole reason he got hit right off the bat), but he was fighting on autopilot the entire time and still hung in there.

Anyway, I think fighting (and potentially losing to) someone he whooped in the past might be the thing he needs to show himself that he needs to hang them up.

I do enjoy BJ Penn, and he's of course had a lot of exciting fights, but he's not super impressive to me. His record is quite atrocious when comparing to many others that have been around as long or longer than him.

  24. I expect Tito to win this fight but I would love to see The Iceman absolutely hit him with an overhand bomb
