I've been eating pretty good all week, just need to find it in me to cut out these damn sodas. I get a 20 oz. bottle at work almost daily. But I also drink about 80 oz. of water; so soda is not the only thing I'm drinking.

i'm writing a book, leave me alone.

Start with changing to the Diet version and a smaller size. That's what I did and it helped pretty well when I made the change years ago.

At the very least cuts out sugar and wasted calories.

I still drink soda I'm just trying to cut down. Like I got one today but I got a small size instead. Which is why I get a lil irritated when places think they're being cool by sizing me up without charging more cause I have no willpower lol. Last time I got one I ordered a reasonable size and she gave me like this gargantuan cup

This is more processed and extra "non natural" sugar, but yeah. Sugar is terrible.

Sugar is something I need to cut way down. I eat so much sugar I don't even notice. When it's spaced throughout the day it doesn't seem ridic but when I take inventory of what I've eaten at the end of the day I'm like omg. I'm getting better but I love sour candy and soda

Screw ppl who act like fruit is evil tho! I always have ppl telling me to cut it out cause it's so sugary and I'm like omg pry it out of my cold dead hands

A lot of things on that sugar list are specious at best...

I was really hopeful that I would finally crack 240 this week. Clocked in at 237.

Edit: 19 lbs in 7 weeks

Pretty cool to see a thread like this. I'm hoping to see some more people who are fit come in and share processes/habits that helped them get to where they are.

At one point when I lived in Philly, hated my life and myself, and was going through a very bad break up I was pushing 215-220 pounds. I was drinking heavily, eating total bullshit all the time, and completely abandoned exercise.

I never knew exactly what a "Paleo" diet was, but from reading what I just read in here it seems I followed a personal similar diet that got me to where I am. When I finally got myself back on track and really started pushing to get back in shape, my sister talked to me about a diet she was doing that I have now done a few times and seen good results. But it isn't pretty.

I basically for about a week will go on a strict protein diet. Meaning eggs (limiting egg yokes to avoid high cholesterol), chicken, very lean beef, turkey burgers, turkey bacon, selective deli meats, non-fried fishes, and at times all beef hot dogs. I allow myself to eat as much of these as I want and when I want, using condiments like salt, pepper, sugar free ketchup, and spices sparingly for flavor so I don't get sick of the limited options. After 7 days I once had loss about 9lbs. (As always, if you're heavier you will probably notice a more significant weight loss). Is it extreme? Kind of. But it works. I also take a fiber supplement pill regularly on this to keep everything else "flowing" properly.

Once i've hit at least 6 or 7 days I mark how much the weight loss is, and then from there go every other day eating strictly protein like the list above, and then protein/vegetables the other days, alternating back and forth until I match the weight loss I hit the first week. From that point on, I go as long as I can sticking to mostly natural foods and protein based meals, while allowing myself one cheat day a week where I have whatever I want. Adding the vegetables back in reintroduces carbs and sugar in the healthiest way possible so that your body doesn't blow back up. I do avoid potatoes and corn though, completely.

I promise you, yes, the first week is rough. It is a challenge, but there's a few other details I think are important. Firstly, especially during the first week, I do not push exercising heavily. You will run yourself dry and be fatigued, and making a major diet adjustment is a challenge in its own before you try to change the exercise aspect. I literally avoid cardio altogether and do only strength training, weights to keep from becoming flabby due to quick weight loss. You have to build muscle to keep your nice shape and not look like a raisin. Because you aren't taking in any carbs or sugar, your body is gonna be burning everything that it has stored just going through your normal day, and you will burn fat/calories doing strength/weight training anyways. After the first week, and you've felt the water weight gone/have adjusted to the feeling of not having sugar/carbs in your system your body will react more positively to cardio.

Today, I sit at a proud 6'1 175lbs. My problem is, I get to a weight I like, think the battle is over, and give right back into my vices. My weight fluxed this past year consistently between 180-190lbs but any time I REALLY start to get self conscious I go back to this technique and bring myself back to a more comfortable place. Mindset is everything, and if anyone maybe decides to try this out and has some questions let me know!

Personal question I have: Has anyone else really struggled with belly fat/love handles? I can't get rid of mine no matter what I try exercise-wise. my abs are defined, but I still have pudgey-ness I can't shake off.

Yes, yes, yes. I can't get rid of mine. Only time I've seen significant gains in getting rid of them is when I was swimming two miles a day, four days a week.

I need to drop 80 lbs. I just realized that I've gained 80 lbs since I became a computer science major in 2012 -_-.

Then again, I am 6 ft 3 and was skinny before, so it's okay I guess....

Yeah I hate when my friend who doesn't care to talk about his work life outside of the gym says to me "it's genetics". Like, eat shit dude I need a better answer than that lol. I have seen other people get rid of it, I know I can too. I just need to try something I don't know about/haven't tried to target that area. Google searches seem to return nothing substantial.

Because they're in the core, like all core workouts, you have to train full body and change the diet you're on drastically for a long while. I don't like that answer, but I know it's the only way it's all gonna come together.

I have no delusions that I won't have a little belly and some love handles at the end of this process. Those last couple pounds require such grueling work that I'd make myself miserable, and this is all about making myself happy.

Netflix has a documentary called Sugar Coated, suggest everyone watch it. Already purged my house of anything that has sugar. Need to figure out a condiment alternative though.

I walked a lil further than usual today but it's so hard when it's hot. Yesterday I walked in the evening and decided I didn't like it. Since I basically do nothing all day when I'm not working lol walking in the morning makes me feel like I accomplished something and then I get out of bed earlier and get more stuff done.

Idk if I can transition to running. I def have to keep with walking more first to build up to there and then prob buy better shoes to run in. But idk I'll see where it goes. I tend to be the queen of starting things and getting really into it and then stopping

I'm a big fatass, so I have no right giving advice. But I fight the heat by trying to walk near water. Usually shaves a few degrees off. Not sure if that's an option for you.

that's a good idea. rn I just walk in my neighborhood but I'd like to start walking in the park here that has a good walking trail and is near the creek. But as of now I've watched too many shows on the ID channel about missing ppl and women being attacked so I'm working my courage up to there haha

Yeah my mom is always on about how years ago someone got attacked at the reservation I go to every day. I really cannot impress upon her how un-worried I am.

Man I had such a shitty weekend of eating. At first it was just going to be Saturday, but then yesterday my friend from Milwaukee came up to visit. We were going to go for sushi, but the place was closed so we just went across the street and got Chinese. Then we went to Cheese Fest and I ate a ton of free cheese, because I have a hard time turning down free food. Need to really get back into counting calories and running this week.
