If anything TBEITBN is radio rock and this is them running in the opposite direction.

I'm no Thrice super fan. I've always listened to them and only really got into them with TBEITBN, which led me to revisit some of their albums I dismissed in the past. I'm really happy with this album. It has some elements of post-hardcore, some lite prog elements like Circa, and some straight bangers. I find it crazy that the band is 20 years deep (I think?) and producing albums that are still this good

Ugh, I got to work before I realized this leaked. i think I'll just re-acquaint myself with my faves from the back catalog in the meantime.

Has anyone found a place you can listen to this without buying the mp3 album or torrenting?

Otherwise I'm gonna have to wait until Friday before I can give this a listen, and it's killing me.

glad I'm not the only one who picked up on this. Agree 100 percent, wonder if the tour influenced dustin a bit.

I've seen comparisons to Circa and Anberlin, so this will undoubtedly be my favorite Thrice record. I'm kidding. I think.

If youre hinting at fanboyism, I'm definitely not a "super" fan of Thrice. I really admire Dustin's voice and am obsessed with quite a few of their tracks, but I've never heard a record by them where I loved most, or all, of the songs. This album is the first for me where the majority are great tracks that I can see myself listening to over and over again.

To me, this is a very experimental album (Grey and Light aside). My first listen through was jarring, I was extremely surprised by the direction they went in. Now I am in love. Highlights for me:

    -Bridge of Only Us
-With the context of the rest of the album, I love the Grey now. I was lukewarm on it upon release but the song just bangs.
-The lead riff on the Dark is so cool, menacing, and sinister. Keyboard in the chorus is awesome as well.
-Didn't like Just Breathe on first listen. Might be one of my favorite Thrice songs now. The chorus lyrics are everything to me. The ending is beautiful.
-Love the ambiance Teppei creates in Everything Belongs
-My Soul is a cool song, couldn't have foreseen Thrice tapping into some smooth R+B vibes. It's almost like elevator music or something but very cool
-The end of Branch jams so hard. Still waiting for the chorus melody to hit me a little harder.
-Light is a nice, groovy tune. Not my favorite type of Thrice song but I can still dig it
-Teppei's guitar part in Blood is amazing. It was stuck in my head after the first listen. And then the harps hit in the bridge and it just gives off this heavenly vibe. I love it
-The chorus to Pines is beautiful. I love the peaceful ambiance to conclude the album. Going out with a bang wouldn't have suited this song or album well in my opinion.

Ive only listened twice so far but something is starting to come together with this album for me. I think it has something special that will be revealed given a bit more time.

why are you so concerned with other people liking something? if you dont like it thats fine but chill on attacking the fact that people do

its not a revelation that die hard fans of a band will like something the band puts out even if you find it to be of a lower quality. there is literally nothing that would derail their strong fanbase because there will always be people who like their music since its all subjective. and, personally, dont think this band would ever put out something that doesnt appeal to some part of their fan base.

anyway this is a solid 8.75-9.0 out of 10 album.

Vheissu to this day is still my number one but I can respect their decision to change their sound and go in new directions. The fact that, for the most part, I have enjoyed their new directions is a bonus!

Early impression is that I like this more than M/M and TBEITBN (which admittedly thought was very meh).

I think they could have made it a two and a half minute song and it would have been perfect. The third time through the chorus is a bit much.

Video for the dark up on their website. Anybody here in it? I think I see my wife but she is very small in the background

edit: Just realized that my wife is in one of the larger pictures! Just makes it on screen for a couple seconds at the end, but still very cool

You weren’t kidding about the cymbals on The Dark, they’re so overpowering. Great song otherwise.

Two listens in and so far this is roughly in the middle of their discography, but closer to the upper side. I definitely like it better than identity crisis, illusion of safety, air/earth, m/m, and beggars. It's close to TBEITBN. I dunno if it will surpass it, but I like them both pretty equally for what they are.

Definitely loved this on first listen after being kinda worried I would only "like" it. Am I crazy if Beyond The Pines was probably my least fav after one listen (even behind Hold Up The Light, which is a fuckin HEALTHY ASS rock song that you can catch me in the pit for)

My big standouts were Just Breathe and Everything Belongs, especially the latter. Absolutely beautiful song. Also was smiling like an idiot in my car during the bridge of Blood on Blood

Didn't The Dark was on spotify. I think I'll chill with what is available until friday. Ruston Kelly's LP has me busy enough. Looking forward to this though, The Dark is so darkly groovy.
