I love “Woman (in mirror)” but as someone who typically listens to albums all the way through I also find Rooms to be really remarkable as a whole.

    ^^^^^That makes me very happy

I also love both MWY and La Dispute. I got into La Dispute first, though, so the MWY comparisons never really meant much to me. To this day I still think the closest they ever get to MWY is Wildlife and even that isn't a good comparison imo.

mwY obviously informed the inception of LD but they didnt end up sounding much like them at all in practice imo

on paper the aesthetic and idea has been similar but the songwriting and vocalists are completely different sounding

Just to put in my 2 cents. There is a difference between “i don’t like this band” or “i think this band is bad” and saying “this band is bad” or “this band’s lyrics suck”. The former is stating your opinion and the latter is statin your opinion as fact. I think the former is an easier pill to swallow for most and the latter makes people defensive.

  6. My two cents:
I don’t care if you liked or didn’t like something. You are absolutely entitled to your opinion. But the opinion is not what matters. The point is that when you say something is “bad writing” or “bad direction,” I want to understand what you actually mean by that, and why you think that. And if you can only stammer out a few confusing words that add up to “that’s how I felt,” then I can’t understand you. And the simple truth is that applying the right words and backing them up with clarity, while showcasing an understanding of the nuance behind them, is literally what criticism is.

there is never a reason to type out “I think” when you give your opinion

    it is implicit

In the written language stuff like that is important. “I think” makes it a statement of opinion. Leaving it off makes it a statement of fact.

I've found that using the phrase "yea, that [artist/group/thing] just isn't for me" seems to be the most palatable & non-threatening way to get your point across. Then, whoever you are speaking with at the time can choose to ask follow up questions if they want or just leave it alone.

Used in an example: "Yea, this conversation about LD being bad just isn't for me."

I don’t think anyone was mean. But yea I’ll always defend bands I love and why I love them. But like I never felt mad at dinomillshake or anything like that

I'm emotionally exhausted after each time I listen to Wildlife or ROTH. Two brutal and beautiful records. I think both bands even through sonic similarities try to deliver something entirely different. Both are great.

who actually really cares if someone likes or not a band

we’re here for discussing anyway, so I say all opinions welcome - didn’t think anyone said anything rude

that said, LD being a lesser version of mwY is such a lazy comparison, come onnn
