K, what makes them bad though? They are really talented musicians and their lyrics are incredible.

Dive into the concept of the story of their last album, it will be really rewarding for you. I promise, at the very least you will at least respect them more.

 

mewithoutYou is one of my all-time favorite bands by a long shot. I love them a considerable amount more than La Dispute.

La Dispute is a great band though and Rooms is one of my favorite albums of the last few years. Wildlife is terrific too. Also, adored their live performance when they opened for Thrice in 2016.

mewithoutYou doesn’t have a monopoly on spoken word. It’s a hard thing to do well and IMO La Dispute is one of the few artists I can think of that kills it along with Listener and Levi the Poet.

Also, it’s not like it’s even an identical spoken word style. IMO, they are both pretty different. I would never hear one and have them confused for another. Like, play rooms and pale horses back to back.. those albums are very different.

 

i used to kinda think that way too until i really sat down with wildlife and came to found that ld definitely have their very own separate identity. some of the songs on that album are so haunting and heavy (even way apart from king park). i still think about i see everything sometimes and it chills me

 

Exactly. Like, instead of just coming in here and shitting on them, it could've been easily resolved by saying "yeah I'm not really a fan of them, I just don't really like what they've put out"

But continuously saying they suck and that they're boring instrumentally and have shit lyrics is just stupid.

 

"La Dispute is just ripping of mwY" is such a 2008 take that I just got war flashbacks, yikes.

IMO they're very different bands with different messages and talents. I do think it's bonkers to say they're bad instrumentalists.

i'm not even a big la dispute fan and even i think the slander/mwY lite comparisons are incredibly lazy and dumb.

 

I currently enjoy LD more than MWY, but I'm trying pretty hard to go through the discog and enjoy everything from MWY. Love the EP and Julia wholeheartedly.
