Fairly certain with the lawsuit going on over the Friday The 13th franchise that kind of has halted use of it altogether until its settled. The popular game that came out about a year and a half ago got shut down as well because of it.

what do yall think are the best films for getting someone into horror? its gotta be paced well and hold attention.

Im currently thinking of Alien and or The Thing. Any others?

I personally love the following classics: But I guess it depends what kind of films they’re in to. I love horror, but not too big on sci fi horror. Alien and The Thing are great movies, but I wouldn’t rank them among my favorites.

    Halloween
    Evil Dead 2
    The Shining
    The Exorcist
    Friday the 13th
    Scream
    Saw 1
    The Blair Witch Project
    Joy Ride
    It Follows
    The Witch
    Hereditary

    cheers for the nice list

will add Evil Dead 2 and It Follows to the list

Im not personally a fan of slasher films

I desperately want to see Hereditary but Im worried it will be too artsy / slow paced for my friend

    Doing fine. Prestigious

I love Alien and as great of a film as it is, i think it starts a little slow for a new horror fan. Kuri has a great list. Anything with a strong opening scene would be a good choice. It Follows, Scream, and Halloween as previously mentioned would be great choices imo. The Ring is another.

I’ve never seen The Fly so I’m planning on watching that either tonight or tomorrow night.

Also, I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen the original Amityville Horror, just the Ryan Reynolds remake lol. Is it worth a watch?

  14. The Fly is my favorite horror film, I think. And Amityville Horror is definitely wortha watch.

  15. For someone getting into horror for the first time, I know for me personally, I would prefer a newer great movie over a 70s/80s classic great movie. Save the classics for when you know they’re into it so they can really appreciate it.

  16. Eh, I think it's subjective, especially if they're asking for recs like Alien or The Thing. I don't need to know anything about horror to know those are still great films when I watch them

  18. True. If the person initially wants an older classic movie, then by all means give them the best of the best right out of the gate.

  20. It's perfect for so many reasons lol but I love Cronenberg, and body horror, and horror-comedy, and Jeff Goldblum, and Mel Brooks, so...

  23. I have! And I did. But it's mostly out of a love for the aformentioned genres, plus Kevin Smith. I know I'm mostly alone in that. Passion projects fascinate me.

I think sometimes there is a risk with showing someone new to horror the classics because sometimes they've casually seen some stuff that rips those classics off and they think the classics are silly because they've seen it done before so it comes off whatever and kinda cheesy. But that depends on the person of course.
